How much oil does a 96 civic 1.4 take from empty?

roughly? couple of litres?

I just put in a litre but it didn't even register on the dipstick. I'm hesitant to add much more in case there's some problem with the dipstick reading and I overfill it. Or would it take much more than 1 litre?

cheers fiends.

if you overfill it, you could just pull the drain bolt and drain the oil back out again.

should go to at least 2 litres. recently emptied my 95 civic and only after filling substantial amount i got a proper reading on the dipstick.
