few quick questions regarding coolant and fans

1)How can I tell if I have air in the radiator or heater core?
2)To remove air/bubbles in the radiator do you turn the car on w/o the rad cap and fill coolant slowly?
3)Also how do I know if my radiator fans are working properly?
4)Is there a way to test/diagnose the radiator fans?
5)Should they be on after a drive?

Get back at me. I plan on checking my cooling system sometime this weekend or next when I change out my tranny fluid. Last coolant flush was 20,xxx miles ago at firestone.

Re: few quick questions regarding coolant and fans

1. you will hear a bubbling sound in the dash (inside the car) when the heat is on and you press the gas.

2. take the cap off, then turn the car on and warm up to normal temp.fill it up as the coolant goes down and air escapes. you should see bubbles.

3. radiator fan should come on when it is hotter than 80F outside and the car is idling. also if you turn the a/c on, both fans will turn on automatically.

4. you can apply power and ground directly to the fan from the battery to turn it on. if fan works, but never turns on when car is hot, it may be bad fan switch sensor.

5. our fans are not very useful. in outside temps below 80F, they will not even turn on. on hot summer days, with heavy idling, they will turn on for 10 seconds at a time.
