01-05 = belt
06-10 = chain

They must have gotten confused.

Going to push mine to 110k most likely, maybe 105 ??

they were confused. The dealership said that Honda changed from timing belt to timing chain in 04.Since mine is a 04 they were not sure what mine had. Thanks for your answer.Atleast now I know I have a belt.Even though I wish it had a chain.

that is really stupid I would not go past 75k on the belt they usually snapp just past 100k and I had one go on a prelude at 62k but it was at 6 years old which is the limit if you have not put much mileage on the carrr*. they are just too easy to replace to let it go that long.

honda is always confused lol I would rather have the belt it is more accurate with keeping an engine in time cause there is not as much slack as there is in the chain and also honda chain engines the tensioner on them is oil pressure driven so when your at 8,000 rpm going into a tight hairpin and the oil washes away from the pick up then boom there goes your chain.

Re: timing belt or chain

honda manual says 109k for the timing belt on 01-05 civics. 90k for older civics. i would just do around 100k. its not like its gonna break if you wait a bit longer tho. those belts are usually rated for 150k miles.
