Can we use s2000 oil filters on 7thgens?

Hey guys,

My brother was telling me that a bunch of guys with accords are using s2000 oil filters on their cars (my bro uses one too, even tho honda said it wouldnt fit, it does fit and it is supposedly better)

Im just wondering if S2000 oil filters will fit on 7thgens (i have a 2003 canadian Si, which is an 2003 American EX if that makes a difference)

If someone could kindly let me know, Id appreciate it (and rep+1 for you!)

Thanks!

02BLKCIVIC 12-14-2006 02:38 PM

why?

why would you want to do that?

I dont get it.

Im gona guess no tho!

2K5CIVICBOY20 12-14-2006 02:45 PM

k...its a yes and no answer bro...yes itll fit...but if you look at the filters..the s2000 filter is slightly bigger..(lil fatter)..unlike the filter for the 7th gen...yea it does fit..ive tried it before...and have seen it before...itll work..idk if its better lol... if its an older honda..99 back..they all basically used the same filter...

doctor 12-14-2006 02:47 PM

Uh I thought we still use all the same filter? When I go to the dealer sometimes to pick up an OEM filter, they just sit in a bucket, without any descriptions for diff types of vehicles.

2K5CIVICBOY20 12-14-2006 02:49 PM

most of them do...but theres a couple that dont..for example..s2000..

DDragon7 12-14-2006 03:48 PM

I was told it would work on a 7thgen by a buddy in Honda Parts department, and currently using one right now.

02fpcivic 12-14-2006 03:57 PM

I think it has something to do with the higher oil pressure or flow rate the S2k prolly makes at 9k rpm hehe. Maybe its larger to cycle more oil to keep the pump from being overworked. IDK my buddy has an s2k and we were just talking about this last week. I think Im gunna get two filters and chop em up to see whats what.

nick95673 12-14-2006 04:45 PM

You can use used s2000 filters for better results.

2002civicLX2002 12-14-2006 05:52 PM

now why would a used s200 filter work better than a new one?

DUHH THE S2000 PERFORMANCE RUBS OFF ON IT.

2K5CIVICBOY20 12-14-2006 06:56 PM

LOL. Nice. One would wish..Lol

DDragon7 12-14-2006 10:47 PM

LoL, I think he means to cut up, use a used one instead of the new one.

2002civicLX2002 12-14-2006 11:12 PM

o ok, i got ya know, sorry guys, i was confused on why a used oil filter is better.

nick95673 12-14-2006 11:26 PM

Dont use a used s200 filter(try to find one anyways). Honda engineers wouldn't just randomly not use the s2000 filter. The guys who get paid to think about these things decided it would be best to go with a civic filter. If it was a positive Honda would push us to buy it at a higher price.

hustlelikem0fo 12-14-2006 11:35 PM

i thought i seen all the stupid things people do and want to do with their civic.... but questions like these makes me think otherwise.

AmbulanceMonkee 12-15-2006 01:13 AM

^Bragging right?? Are you high?? "Hi, I spent more money on a filter not even designed to work with my car, that certainly won't help my engine, and may screw it up." Doesn't sound like bragging to me, more like an admission of chronic stupidity.

sl33pyriceboi 12-15-2006 01:18 AM

heheh...this thread is awesome...

IBTL

Gr33nMonster 12-15-2006 01:23 AM

By braggin right I mean ya I got a s2000 filter in my civic. Ya something like that. feel me?

AmbulanceMonkee 12-15-2006 01:28 AM

I guess i'm missing something.

Gr33nMonster 12-15-2006 01:29 AM

AmbulanceMonkee 12-15-2006 01:39 AM

i'm just making you think. not hating.

DDragon7 12-15-2006 12:11 PM

Isnt the s2000 a little better than the regular one? Like more flow or something? They originally cost a bit more, but now its the same price as the regular ones.

2K5CIVICBOY20 12-15-2006 12:24 PM

HEY.. ^^^ THATS WHAT I WAS SAYIN..KOOL..IM NOT THE ONLY ONE. Lol

DaddyFatSacks 12-15-2006 12:43 PM

I ve been using them for a long time now on my 01" I have 5 at home righy now there OEM.

2K5CIVICBOY20 12-15-2006 01:04 PM

yea i knew they fit...and worked...but didnt know if the design on the inside was different. ya know? for the flow?

nick95673 12-15-2006 02:37 PM

bigger doesnt always equal better. More doesnt always equal better.

Erikwithak86 12-16-2006 04:46 AM

This seems like one of those "Hey, the S2000 is a badass car, maybe if I use an S2000 oil filter I will have badass oil flow and filtering just like it!"

About as smart as using 91 octane.

02BLKCIVIC 12-18-2006 11:18 AM

The drivers manual for the US spec EX says 87 octane or better.^

just FYI.

Rufus 12-18-2006 12:05 PM

The S2000 has a cool steering wheel. If I put the steering wheel on my car will my civic handle like an S2000?

armieo 12-18-2006 12:10 PM

I can't wait to see someone install an s2000 oil filter on their civic and then put it in their list of "custom" mods along with their custom spoon gas caps and custom spoon washer fluid caps and spoon fuzzy wristbands around parts in their engine bays.

Valdeezy 12-18-2006 02:44 PM

what a stupid thought.:rtfm: So you are syaing that If I put a S2K steering wheel on my 01 civic then I will have the same suspension and handling just as the S2K. Man Im gonna go out and do this right now. See ya guys at the track.:moon: :moon: :flush: :screwy:

SOHC_VTEC_pwr 12-24-2006 04:54 PM

Exactly. Even if it did fit, why? :_please:

OVNI_CIVIC 01-06-2007 07:26 PM

well there are 4 types that im aware of, the older civics and hondas had a larger screw to the center of the filter. Then theres the regular oem honda filter made by fram for 88+ civics/ accords/ preludes (not S2000)- with higher specifications from honda; and theres the other filter that is made by toyo roki in japan, that fits all the newer civics 88+, etc... and is more specifically for the S2000. And at last there is the NSX filter....

edit:
Forums -> 3 oil filters compared
the part #'s from honda have changed since then...
Fram built OEM spec. HONDA -- 15400-PLM-A02 (-A01)
Toyo Roki built (s2000 filter)-- 15400-PCX-0004

kornsined 01-06-2007 10:03 PM

"hey dude, I got a s2000 filter on that d17."

"no way DUDE!!!!!"

"i know! VTAK YO!!"

rutscivic 01-06-2007 10:28 PM

i doubt an s2000 oil filter is gonna give you BETTER results...jus use the filter for your specific car...
