It's about 7200 bc I've gone past 7000 after first gear. I don't think first gear allows you to rev that high but I"ve def hit 7200 shifting to third. I don't do this often but its fun chasing Evos and such on the highway at times lol.

ex2k3 09-29-2006 09:33 PM

I believe the d17a2 rev limits at 69xx. Every stock civic tach I've seen has been off at higher rpm levels, mine displays around 7100 when the fuel cuts but I remember someone posted their aftermarket digital tach's reading at rev limit and it was just below 7k.

ronaldo9 09-29-2006 09:39 PM

Ya I've heard stock tachs are off but thats what I've seen when I shift at redline. I guess a true dyno would be able to tell, not that any of this matters. Thanks for the clarity though. I was not trying to tell ppl the wrong thing thats just what i experienced.

higher octane does nothing for performance, here is what the octane rating means.^^^^^
you only need higher octane if you have a higher compression engine that could cause the fuel to spontaneously ingnite (knocking) b/c high pressure = high heat which = combustion.... so there you go... our engines are designed to take 87 or 86 or whatever, so use it and stop wasting you hard earned cash :screwy:

ok boss
thanks for your thoughts.

sigh...this has been discussed so many times. This is econobox car. it was designed and tuned to run best at low octane gas. Why would they make it run better with higher octane if the car is designed to be CHEAP on gas?

Octane is something to talk about for us guys who can't swap yet (warranty) and dream of having more power. I read somewhere on a thread here that the ECU on our cars will retard the timing if it senses detonation, say for nitrous applications. Would the ECU advance the timing if we are using higher octane fuels? Would advancing the timing help to get more power out of higher octane fuels? I have buddies with mustangs who go to the track, add octane booster and advance the timing for more power? They say it works, what is the idea, how would that work?

lucky

hmm lol only high compression motors need gas with a bigger octane rating. civic is not one of em sorry.

"VTEC" ??? hehe honestly....the civic has a pathetic "vtec"

u should try driving a v6 with Vtech....see wt difference it is... it'll scare teh shizz out of u

AmbulanceMonkee 09-30-2006 02:15 AM

Here it comes. I'm just waiting now.

Johnold 09-30-2006 06:20 AM

the manual for my Ex says i can use 87 Octane OR HIGHER so i've been using Premium gas. i dunno. like i said before, i've been using premium gas and can't seem to go back to 87 cause it's become a habbit now. ohwell.

DaddyFatSacks 09-30-2006 10:59 AM

All I know is if you keep putting that OCTANE booster in your car your gonna kill it. I just like using SUNOCO 87 all the time. If your going to different station, getting different octanes and adding different boosters t6he car is allways gonna be learning. I think my car taut on the same gas station and gas is better and the ECU is used to it for years. Just my .2

Johnold 09-30-2006 11:01 AM

yeah, i don't know about that booster junk. i always get the same gas at the same gas station. Mobil. 93 octane (premium).

What, you been cruising around in NSXs or something? Learn some grammar, man.
