Oil Changing Question

I have an 01 EX Coupe, MT, with just over 100k miles. I know Honda recommends 5w20 oil. That's what I've been using, but I wonder if it might be a good idea to use something thicker since she's getting up there in miles. Anyone know?

mobil 1, it'll run u forever. if you dont have the money tho, use 5w20 high mileage

where do you live? If you live somewhere hot all year, then maybe a 5w30 MIGHT work good for you. Also, you may want to try Valvoline Max Life, it's a very good high milage oil (lots of moly which Mobil 1 lacks and moly is a big pls in high milage cars). Also, the Max Life is pretty cheap, you can pick up a 5 quart bottle from Wal-Mart for around $10-$12. Then get a get good filter, because oil is only as good as the filter you use with it. Doesn't make sence to use a good oil and a crapy filter that will let larger carbon chunks through and scratch the side wall up.

just get something like valvoline maxlife^ i wish i knew where to find it in 5w20 nowhere has it here.

There are 2 types, a synthetic blend and a full synthetic. I personally use the blend because it is far cheaper than the full synthetic, but if having a long oil change interval is imprtant, go for the full synthtic and a really good filter. I go 4,000 miles on the blend adn would guess that the synthetic could go about 6,000-7,000 miles without testing. Agian, with a blend you could get away with a medium filter and the synthetic will require a very good filter. But the blend will give you more moly in the engine, so I went with that on my Accord.

No reason to go any thicker than 5w-20. No need for "high-mileage" oils either. Just keep doing what you're doing.

Tis true.... a 5w20 will work fine in any weather. But Honda does in the manual reccomend using 5w30 in hotter conditions, even from the first oil change

Anyway, trust me when I say if you use any decent oil with a good oil change interval, your engine will probably outlast your car.

when the weather is hot or you plan on running your engine hard then i suggest running the thicker oil such as a 10w30 because the heat will thin it out.. in the cooler seasons use the recommended thinner oil because the cold will make it thicker and harder for the engine to heat up quickly if its too thick.. cars are all simple science..
