Cleaning CAI Filter

So I was looking around my engine bay today, and looked down through a very tiny opening in all the hoses and stuff, to see that the filter on my Injen CAI is all brown and gross, and a little bit crumpled. Anyway I ordered some Injen filter oil to clean it.

My question is how exactly to get to the filter, it looks to me like I'll have to take the whole front bumper off?

streetglower 08-24-2006 03:33 AM

yes you do have to take the bumper off. its a pain because that filter will become dirty pretty fast.

Darkfox3889 08-24-2006 12:58 PM

ya, oh well, at least taking the bumper off is pretty easy. Also I heard you can screw up your MAF sensor if you don't clean it right is this true?

I clean and re-oil mine twice a year, and it always is noticable in fuel consumption...

Overoiling is a bad thing on a SRI. On a CAI, I don't think it's as big of a deal. But nonetheless, be stringent on the amount of oil that you use on it, and make sure to let it dry naturally before you put it back on the car

What would happen if you used a hair dryer to speed the drying process?

I'd just make sure its not blowing dust into the wet oil, and do it from the outside:shrug: ........but then again patience is a virtue for a reason:rofl:

you dont have a MAF, the car uses a MAP sensor and a IAT sensor.

My K&N cleaning kit says to not use Compressed air, so you don't blow the cotton gauze out from the screens. I think if you used a hair dryer and kept it about a foot away from it that might be okay...Still something I wouldn't do though.

haha, when I saw his post I was
anyway, just dont put too much oil thats all. What is too much oil? Dont put so much to the point where the oil starts dripping off. And dont spray the filter from too close a distance.

Hurts2bStock 08-24-2006 06:01 PM

not enough oil is bad too, it has to be pink all over.....lol pink all over.....lol....theres a joke in waiting

It's gotta be like a pink taco before you stick it on your tube.

civydcex 08-24-2006 11:57 PM

^^^ I agree, go with a dryflow synthetic!!! No oiling and actually flows better than anyone else.

Darkfox3889 08-25-2006 10:29 PM

ok a couple of n00b questions
will these AEM dryflows fit fine on my injen cai?
what is a dryflow filter? just AEM's name for them?
and thoses anti hydro-lock bypass valves look nice, will they work on my injen?

rutscivic 08-25-2006 10:53 PM

who takes off there front bumper???i just jack the car up, unscrew the screw, and work it out..works alot easier. I oiled mines every 2 oil changes

The filter will fit just get the right size to match yours. Not sure but I dont see why the bypass wouldnt work:shrug:

Darkfox3889 08-26-2006 10:28 PM

kk, does the bypass go inbetween the filter and the intake?

civydcex 08-26-2006 10:39 PM

Installs on the upper portion of the inlet pipe.

Darkfox3889 08-27-2006 02:57 PM

perhaps the newbiest question of all, but how do I find the current size of my filter? measure the pipe with a ruler or something lol?

Measure the filters inlet. It will be close to 3 or 4". AEM dryflow I hope bro!!! Check out www.ptuning.com, email them or call, they will hook you up with the right size for a decent price!!! Advanceauto also carries AEM dryflows, match your to the one at the store.
