valvoline oil

I got my oil changed about 5 months ago at Valvoline with synthetic oil. The window sticker they gave me says I need to change it on 08/06/2005 or 19663 miles. My car has about 20,100 miles now but I hear synthetic oil can last for 5000 miles. Should I change my oil now or should I wait til 5000 miles?

Also I havent driven the car for 4 months because it was uninsured while I went to school.

change it, you shouldn't let it sit in the for more than 3-4 months

Jrfish007 12-21-2005 04:08 PM

yup, change it because it sat for so long. Synthetic is fine for well over 5,000 miles, but letting it set for so long is bad for it's pH.

Just change it anyway, cause you can't really judge just by the milage, if it's back in aug since last oil change, i'll change it right away.

synthetic oil does not last 5000 miles, anyone who says it does is lying, change all oil 3000 miles if u want your engine to last

not at WOT driving. 3000 miles if you step on it. maybe even sooner.

lc20 in oil = 10k miles

chrisleecool 12-25-2005 12:33 PM

change it (like everyone said, it's been sitting too long)
I change my Regular oil every 5~6k miles and I heard it is totally fine to go that much

the oil may last but what about the chunks of metal flowing in it?

That's why I change my oil at 1,500 miles. Since their "magic break in stuff" is actually just moly, if you pick up an oil that has a high moly count, you will be fine. It sounds wierd but, use Valvoline Max Life if you want to change your oil sooner than 5,000 miles, it has 5 wt% moly in it, the highest around.

Sure :_please: and you are basing that off what? And you have what to back you up?

Try using google and finding some used oil analysis, chack the TBN of of the oils. My dad changed his oil every 5,000 miles with DINO oil, his old car is still running, with almost 300,000 miles on it. I know plenty of people who have done that, I also know plenty of people who have changed their oil every 3,000 miles and still had their engines blow up before they get to 50,000 miles.

ok im sorry i should have been more specific, if you drive like a grandma, synthetic will last long, but if you drive spirited, most if not all sythetic oils will be broken down and ready to be changed around 3000 miles.
