D.I.Y. Fitzall 220amp Alternator 7th gen civic.
 

This is a brief guide on how to install the Fitzall 220amp alt in a 7th gen 1.7L civic. This alt will give out 110amps at idle. Cost : ~$315 with shipping from Power Bastards.

1. Use the following to remove previous 70amp alt.

2. The Fitzall has all the right bolt holes so nothing besides the alt will need to be modified. When you first put the alt in, you will notice the alternator will not slide in deep enough. It gets caught on one of the A/C lines.

3. Cut off excess aluminum. There might possibly be room to leave 1/4 inch to 1/8th inch on so that a smaller bolt can be used to hold the alt together because this may cause trouble in the long run.

4. Now that the alt slides into place and the bolt holes line up, you will notice the pulleys are still no lined up.

What you need to do now is take the pulley off the alt and use a lathe to carve out the inside of the pulley 250 thousandths. (the side with the nut) Going beyond this much may compromise strength. Then add a thick washer to extend the pulley out from the alternator.

Note: I went to 4 machine shops before finding this old man that did it for $35, others had surcharges of up to $80 plus labor.

Note: I used some Lock Tight and had an alternator shop use their fancy tools to put the bolt back on tight. (if you try by hand, the pulley will fly off when you start your car)

5. Now the pulleys will be off by only 1/8th of an inch, I went out and got a smaller belt than the stock belt (~1/2 inch smaller) Installed it and everything runs well, no squealing.

6. Install 0 gauge power line to battery.

Sure man, ill post some links when I take a vid and upload it to youtube. Still in the process of getting all the rattling out. Makes too much noise right now with trunk closed to want to show off haha.

hows the alternator holding up? how many volts are you getting while driving at low RPMs? I have a volt meter and my car idles at 14.2 but when I start driving, it goes down to 12.2. I'm running a 1500 Watt system and Im thinking about doing an alternator upgrade like yours. I have already done the Big 3 upgrade and installed a Die Hard Platinum Group 34 battery.

hey nice diy. so i was wondering about the electrical connector. did the electrical connector match up correctly? i have a 95 civic ex 1.6L vtec and i am looking into getting a fitzall 220.

also would like to see your system.
