Who has HID in stock TYC's???

Just as the topic states. I don't want to mess with my TYC's by trying to retrofit A6 projector lenses. I would rather just get the plug and play kit from Phillips. I also want to see pictures of HID in stock TYC and I want to know if there are any problems that people are having with them. Thanks

me, too, id like to see how just regular unmodded tycs do with hid

silverem2 02-15-2004 09:14 PM

I've herd h1 HID's do not fit directly into the tyc/halo projectors. There will be some modifications reguarless. I think the h1 hid bulb is a lot longer than a regular h1 halogen bulb. People said you have to sand down certain areas of the housing in order for it to fit. Do a search, i think there are a couple topics on it.

ImPulse 02-15-2004 10:12 PM

ok... HIDs in TYCs/Aftermarket projectors.

1) Aftermarket projectors = Shitty light output (IMO). The projectors are made outta shit glass (basically a magnifying glass). There is a piece of metal in the projector called a shield (shitty made). < Ill take pics if u guys want.

2) Aftermarket HIDs = $200-400+, and when bulbs burn out you can basically only buy "Vision HID Bulbs" (That will break/burn out after a couple of months). Bulbs = 100$?

3) OEM = Well... I dont have to get into that :p

VoiceOfID had aftermarket HIDs in his projectors and took comparison pics between them and OEM HIDs (Ithink) anyways, with aftermarket hids and aftermarket projectors you WILL have MAD ****ing glare and, cops/people will be pissed off at you.

silverem2 02-16-2004 01:10 AM

so all in all, change the projector before you go hid

now, before i go any further, i've had people say what i show is faults on the tyc projectors, because i aim them wrong or whatever.. so... make your own judgement

well, thats from two totally different angles, do you have or does anyone have garage pictures?

The opening for your bulb is very cramped in the TYC projector. I'd imagine that MOST HID retro bulbs will not fit even if they were made for H1. The return wire will have to be physically touching the projector (or very close to it) to fit.

I have the stock TYC projectors sitting on the shelf, but have never tried to put a retro H1 bulb into one of them. I can tell by looking at it, that it will not be easy. The pattern is not good, but I have definitly seen worse.

passengerside, valeo catz hid h1 4500k

silverem2 02-16-2004 11:26 PM

the beam pattern isnt THAT bad, what modding did you have to do to put hid in there Voiceofid?

Voiceofid 02-16-2004 11:56 PM

to me it was so bad that i had to do the retro

it invloves removing the tyc projectors and replace with the oem style projectors

different memebers did it differently, i cant really tell you how i did mine. because chances are you wont do it the same way. i tried to explain it to jay and he didnt undrestand what i did at all

http://mywebpages.comcast.net/voiceofid/hid/h1/hid5.jpg

the cut off in the pic is created by the valeo on the passengerside

the driver side tyc's only light was that yellow arc

because it doesnt make any sense! Haha, I just dont get how u did it

silverem2 02-17-2004 05:38 PM

ok, I will have to think for a while then, it seems to perform ok with regular bulbs. that will do till i decide

ramoMan 02-17-2004 06:49 PM

so it's possible to purchase a hid kit and plug and play into the tyc projector's, because the cut off patter is pretty nice.

if you look at the two pictures of it shining down the road, it looks like the first one shines brighter

then believe what you want to believe, i put down my opinions, it's your choice to look farther or not

silverem2 02-18-2004 11:54 AM

^
im not arguing your opinion, Im just saying from the LOOKS it looks like it in the side view picture. In the picture from the driver side, it looks like the valeo is farther, but all in all, if you cant afford a conversion(after spending all the money into hid) getting that kind of light output is acceptable over stock.

Voiceofid 02-18-2004 12:27 PM

i would have rather had stock

at least i would have been able to see in the rain

Booohahaha 02-18-2004 02:00 PM

do the HID H1 harness plug in into the H4 harness?

silverem2 02-18-2004 02:32 PM

no, you need to get a h4 hid kit if your planning on keeping stock headlights

Booohahaha 02-18-2004 02:45 PM

noo i have angel eyes projectors and i just got my hands on H1 hid and i just want to plug it in.
what else do i need?...
do i splice and connect the projector's harness? if not, where do i get it?

ImPulse 02-18-2004 05:02 PM

well if your headlights use h1... and if your kit is "plug n play" then it should have an adapter with it... so u shouldnt have to splice anything.

There is nothing attached/plug thingy that goes into the H4/OEM harness? o_O

ramoMan 02-18-2004 06:43 PM

Voiceofid, the cut off pattern against the garage doesn't look soo bad, but i guess it doesn't reach as far? oh well, the reason i don't want to use valeo projectors is because if i f*ck up, my tyc headlights have gone to waste, and it seems like a very difficult task. I'll see what I can do :hithead:

Booohahaha 02-18-2004 07:30 PM

hmm...thats cool i got it to light up.. through trial and error

JayFReaZy 02-18-2004 07:54 PM

^ can ya post pics of what the HID light output at night is like with the halo projectors?
