My new projector headlights!<UPDATE!(page 2)>

Well im not sure if u guys saw my post in hid pics post but just in case u didnt here are some new better pics of my new projectors bought form Apljlfan(thanks). they are retrofited with Valeo projectors w/ hella ballast and 4100k bulbs, also upgraded the halo to CCFL(i believe its called that). only thing i need to get done is aim em properly and figure out how to spread out the light better cause it seems as tho its more concentrated to the middle not an even spread of light, then again it could b just my crazy eyes. also in the pics the camera couldnt get the blue hue of the hids or a good shot of the beam pattern but its good enough. here are the pics:

looks good. Definately need to adjust them. Did you take the pics with the flash on? The second pic looks a little overexposed or that just could be glare from the projectors lol. Man i want my retro project dont already damn it. i have to realign mine on monday.

Al Gore FTW 10-16-2005 02:42 AM

damn, you lucky bastard. i wanted those

crazyasian 10-16-2005 06:44 AM

the thing with the headlights is that he didnt get the adjuster for clockwise rotation stuff installed so i really cant adjust much of the cut off stuff. only the up and down motion but he did get the cut off line pretty good. my camera hates the dark even if i have the flash off it doesnt take good pictures as ive seen others take. do the 05 headlights have an adjuster for left and right movement cause im gonna need to somehow spread the light pattern a bit cause u can see most of it is concentrated mostly in the middle

gearbox 10-16-2005 08:13 AM

i think only sedans have left/right adjustment.

p5hnganthrday 10-16-2005 10:10 AM

It would piss me off knowing that my lights arent aimed correctly

Guess you didnt get to that point yet cause all you care about is, "Wow, these are so much brighter than my halogens"

wait a month :)

dirtySAMURAI 10-16-2005 01:15 PM

i drove around with my retrofitted headlights for like a year and they arent even remotely close to aimed properly. they have rotation issues like a bipolar hooker.

i'll be up in nova wednesday night. if you want to have an HID orgy we can meet up at a mall or something :)

TemjinX2 10-16-2005 02:38 PM

just check out how he mounted the projectors into the headlight. For example on my retro fit i have it mounted on four screws, so i just tighten one end and loosen the other and it routes the projector. Its not as clean as i would like, but it does help get rid of the dead spots.

ragingSPAM 10-16-2005 03:05 PM

wow the light is so concentrated...not used to seeing valeo's like that

gh0st 10-16-2005 04:10 PM

i'm still driving around with an improperly aimed retro :(

ones too high and towards the middle while the other ones just too low. bitches.

find a flat surface and a wall and see what they look like at 20' away. the other ones on the garage are harder to determine since they're so close

crazyasian 10-16-2005 05:28 PM

thx for the kind compliments and some dumb ones too. ya they still look concentrated even if i was on the road but i guess its all b.c i havent gotten them properly aimed. the passenger side beam pattern isnt properly adjust b.c if u look carefully or if u look at it in person it doesnt have a smooth incline it has almost a sharp incline(i believe if u think of it in degrees its more or less 100 degrees). the driver side is perfect. i guess in order to move it left and right i guess im gonna have to do wat teamjinx2 said. its ghetto but i would rather have something than nothing.

p5hnganthrday: im not just thinking about how bright they are, jees i hate pplz who make final judgements out of wat someone says. yes they are bugging me that they are aimed incorrectly but wat the heck could i do about it? im not gonna go by myself trying to rig up a adjustment system where i can aim em properly. im like a baby with a computer when it comes to hid systems and projectors.

AlpJLFan 10-16-2005 08:22 PM

hey crazyasian, I got the guys e-mail who did that retrofit for me. let me know if you want it, i can give it to you if you have any questions he can help you out more than me cause he acutally put everything together.

crazyasian 10-16-2005 08:49 PM

ya let me get it again i accidentally closed the window that u imed me with the guys email. just send it to me thro pm or email either one so that i dont accidently close or something..hehehe. thx again

I hate to refer people to this site but, I admit there is actually some usefull information... Check out, www.hidplanet.com/forums

Read through the problems that people have and some threads will contain images showing the inside of the headlight and how the retrofit was even made.

With that said, Dont just be a baby, grow up and learn some information about it.

It would be good information to know too because what if a ballast, wire or even bulb goes bad? Would you want to wait for someone to respond to your questions or would you like to answer them yourself?

I wasnt trying to sound like an *******... Its just that you honestly have a great set up but, its not performing the way it should. IMO, you will be even more pleased if it was 100% fixed. So... Again, learn and fix the problem

TemjinX2 10-17-2005 02:42 AM

at least your going to have some nice color. Good luck on the alignment. Its a pain in the ass but it'll be worth it. Post pics when your done.

sorry for the late update forgot about this thread. latest news on the headlights is that ill b sending them off around Nov 3-4th because the retrofiter is going on vacation next week till the 6th. he will try to make me an adjuster so taht i can adjust the beam pattern if i have to instead of trying to send it bak to him always he will try to mess with the projectors a bit to see if he can some how expand the concentrated light so that its even all around. more later...

spoonEM 10-29-2005 12:17 AM

now just throw some HIDs in there.

he already has hids in there. He just needs to adjust for the rotation light.

well i got an email just now from the retrofiter and found out several things wrong with the headlights heres wat he sent me:

"Okay, I got the lights today and I started work on them.

A couple things,
1) the one light (can't remember which one) looks like it had a tab that was broken before and sort of repaired? It looks as though it got hit again in shipping a little. I'll see what I can't do about welding that back on.
2) the driver's side was knocked off its fixed point inside when I got it, that was the good side though
3) the passenger side was also knocked off, but not very loose. It still had a problem other than that I think
4) the angel eyes I noticed were modified. This is a no-no for CCFL angel eyes, you can't change the length of the wire between the inverter and the rings. This would explain them seeming dimmer and not working properly. I'm going to modify them back as best I can so they are the proper length. Is there a reason why they were changed?

I can make them rotationally adjustable, however I don't think that I can do it and still make it so that you can adjust them once it is sealed up. There just is not enough room to do so. I'm still going to look into it further as I finish up making the other side adjustable."

finally found the reason for the bouncing beam, projector was knocked off. like i would be driving around and i would see the light beam bounce sorta and i guess thats the reason. i will let you guys know what else he finds out or pictures. thx

TemjinX2 11-09-2005 11:48 PM

i dont get what you mean by "knocked off"?!?! do you mean the lense was loose or the projector wasn't properly secure?

You don't need to readjust the rotational once you have it done. just make the rotational light perfect and seal them up and make sure they never move. It's going to bug you if you don't have them correct. I notice i got a wider beam once i fixed the rotational alignment as well.

crazyasian 11-10-2005 12:48 AM

i dont even have an rotational adjuster installed at all thats y he is trying to make one for me but i told him if he cant do it dont bother nd just fix the beam pattern. not sure wat exactly he means by knocked off but i guess it some how got knocked out of the proper location. well the thing hes doin now is fixing the projector so that they are properly aimed cause before the passenger side was not properly aimed. but once he opened the headlights up he noticed things were messed up so hes gonna fix that, fix the beam, fix the halo rings, and see if he can make a rotational adjuster if he can but if he cant i told him dont waste time on it. more later

jay78 11-10-2005 10:29 AM

i cant see the pics i dont know wats wrong....some one plz post his pics...thankx....

another update:

"I'm guessing by how that one tab looks as though someone attempted to fix it, this probably all happened before. Most likely in route when I sent them to Ed.

As far as the adjustments go, let me see what I can do about getting to a point where you may have some access to it. If I can make it happen it will have to be done during installation, as the access will be blocked when the headlight is bolted onto the car. If it works you'll have to mount the lights, check them, take it off and tweek it, and repeat until it looks good.

Oh, and the beams and bulb seats look fine, I think the fixed points being off had the projectors pointing inwards, so all the focus of both projectors was probably dead center in front of the car. It should be somewhat more uniform when you get them back. "

more later...

jay78 11-10-2005 04:39 PM

yep thankx

crazyasian 11-10-2005 09:43 PM

well he gave me a call couple minz ago and told me couple things:
1)readjusted the projectors back into place
2)replaced the rubber ring that goes behind the headlights where the bulbs go in
3)fixing the wiring for the halo rings cause someone tappered with them
4)added rotational adjuster

so basically he got all the issues fixed or replaced. he says the only thing i would need to pay is the rubber ring which is only 12 dollar and the other thing i would probably not have to pay but if it comes to it is the halo ring($150) but he says thats 100% unlikely. hes also gonna send me pics of some things with the headlights and ill post those. anyways more later..

jay78 11-10-2005 09:53 PM

when u getting your headlights back....?
