i slightly chipped the clearcoat on one of my rims the other day when i was taking them off. i was wondering if the clearcoat will peel if i leave it the way it is? are there any kind of rim sealants that i can buy to seal the chip?
They have those clearcoat rim spray paint at canadian tire and it supose to make ur rim look just like new! u can try it if u want, i sprayed it on my lip thinking it might make it shiny and made my lip duller that when it wasn't painted
how bad is it?

well, i chipped it while putting on a locknut with the lugnut wrench. i must be a complete fool! i just bought the damn rims too.
anyways, the chip is about the size of a grain of rice. it's on the inner edge of one of the lugnut holes. heres a pic. I circled the area that got chipped. the pic is not extremely close so you'll have to look closely. It's actually quite difficult to see.

I have the same problem with one of my rims... I chipped the clear coat and it keeps peeling more and more. I went into Cheap Thrills in Milton where I bought them, the guy there said there's nothing you can do, best to just peel it off completely. It is sort of like a thin plastic coating. I noticed that the aluminum underneath the clearcoat where it peeled is a lot shinier too!
I haven't tried any of the re-clearcoating stuff others mentioned, but I think you'd have to peel off the old clearcoat completely and start from scratch to get a good, even result... *shrug*
On mine the clearcoat is only over the lip, not the spokes. Will take some pics of mine tonight, been meaning to post about it for a while before I saw this thread...

i guess i don't have it too bad if you compare my chip to that.
hehehe, i don't think i'll ever rub up against a curb though. i'm WAAAY too careful to do something like that. that's part of the reason why i try not to parallel park too often. i used some clear nail polish on it this morning. i hope this keeps it from peeling.
