Question Manifold Glowing?!?!

Whats up everyone... Here's my question, I have a 2001 Honda Civic LX with almost 70,000 miles, and for a week or so now, everytime i get down on the gas alittle it starts smelling like something is burning (don't think its oil) so one time i decided to pop the hood and get out to see if i could tell what part of the engine it was coming from, i couldn't but i did see that right after i would floor the car and get out, if it was at night i could see the manifold glowing orange. Whats going on? oh and my check engine light is on, so i went and get it checked and i ended up having to order a new O2 sensor... I haven't gotten it in yet, but is that the problem? Oh and all the fluids are normal, oil changed on time everytime. Does anyone know what it could be? Thanx for any help

The smell or the glow? If the question is the glow, that's normal. Remember that exhaust is hot, metal gets hot when exposed to high temps, like exhaust. If it gets hot enough, like when you get on the throttle, it will glow orange. Relax, grab a couple hot dogs, wrap them in tin-foil, slap em on the manifold, get on it for a while, and voila! Hot dogs on the go.

As for the smell. You may want to get a mechanic to check your cat converter. After 70k miles, it may be getting on the clogged side, and need to be replaced. Just a thought.

i have a 02 lx coupe and after a hard drive i poped the hood just to have a look and found my manifold glowing . so i checked the oil it was fine so i called the honda dealer and they said it was normal that because the cat converter is so close to the motor it get hotter than a cat thats under the car so its normal for it to get hot like that
