03 Si oil capacity question (I posted this topic in the Si Forum but no reply)

The manual on my 03 Si shows a total oil capacity of 5.6 quarts, but a oil change with filter only takes 4.4 quarts. So 1.2 quarts of old oil are mixed with fresh oil, anyone know why?

Because I don't think its all able to drain out when you change it. Only what's in the pan will come out. Oil thats in the head and passages, may not come out. The EX takes 3.7 qt and the max is 4.4. So its the same way. You've got a larger difference because of the DOHC head.
Thats just an educated guess, but it soulds like it should be right.

The amount of oil remaining after draining is minimal - it shouldn't be anywhere near 1 qt. Some of the metrics in the Helm's manual are in imperial quarts, which is a bit different than the US standard quart. Somewhere on the same page it should have a conversion factor.

Well the manual and the Honda spec website shows the Si holds 5.6 quarts total but oil change is 4.4 quarts so that works out to 1.2 quarts. I'm wondering if they want to keep the oil pump primed or something.
