VTEC kicking iN?

Yea... i know with the old EX motors the SOHC vtec was loud still.. u could still hear a change in tune of the exhaust and engine noise... why do i never seem to notice it in mine???? there is no big huge tach jump either... so i'm wondering if i need a reflash or something??? any ideas??? any of the same problems???

the problem is that we have SOHC.. you can't really feel it on our cars.. you will hear it though (if you listen carefully).. just listen at around 5000-5300 RPM's.. thats when VTEC should kick in.. drive in a DOHC and you'll really feel it.

Survey says... NO!

VTEC engages anywhere between 2300 and 3200 RPM depending on how hard you hit the gas... don't believe me, look up the VTEC light DIY and install it.
You aren't going to feel anything at all.

I would just like to say... I was talking to some of my friends about that dumb VTEC Light we got suckered into (no offense to the person who did it, its a great idea) And the SOHC motors with the vtec have diffrent stages (now im not a guru on this.. im not even smart about it) but how it was explained to me was that at the 2300 - 3200 range is when the computer itself turns on and it slowly engages the vtec when/if we feel it, it will still be at the highest point around 6000+ you can actually hear it kick in, feeling it is another story...

obtix is right vtec acctually starts to turn on around 4500rpm, the valves fully open around 6,200rpms. I can tell very easily that my vtec kicks in. The rpms just go up faster and the car is louder. Sounds nice with a CAI.

i believe that vtec engagement on my car is around 4200 rpm. U can actually hear the motor get louder and u can notice the rpm needle go up a little faster, if u watch it closely. It's not a major gain, but a slight noticeable one. I dont' belive what boilermaker said about it kicking in around 2300-3200, that is just idlilng speed, no need for vtec engagement then. Also the VAFC II allows u to set engagement from 3000-6000 rpms.

MangoEX should not be trusted
When the 7th gen first came out, there was an article explaining the relative numbness of the VTEC in the D17 VS the D16. They explained the major reason being to reduce noise, Honda used a differently designed piston top (bi-dome??) , thus making acceleration quieter.
