header + catback exhaust

OK, as i understand it, the cat on our cars is attached to the stock exhaust manifold. If you replace this with an aftermarket header does a cat-back exhaust bolt right up to it? Where is the cat then? And how does it all come together?

the cat is still there. if you get a short header, then nothing changes. if you get a race header with only a downpipe, you keep the stock cat and just connect the downpipe to the stock cat. if you get a racing header with a cat, then you take the stock cat off and attach the whole thing to the cat-back. i think that's how it is, i probably made a mistake somewhere, someone correct me if im wrong
