I've been searching and have found various answers. So I guess this would be like a poll, please post what experiences you've had with double-sided tape and what brand. I've already been reading about new 3M tape and others, are there any better. Anybody, anyone...
I think it depends a lot on the shape of the lip, and the climate your in. If it's warm all the time, you probably won't have any problems. But if it gets cold (below 50) or rains a lot like here in NH, then your on your own. I have the Kaminari lip, and if you look at it, a lot of the lip extends out beyond the front bumper, and it's not supported very well, so it relies a lot on the 3M tape to hold it up. I've tried two diff. kinds of 3M tape, and trust me, with this lip, and my weather conditions, it sucks. I think I might try an epoxy made by a company called SEM. I'm a little nervouse though cause it's permanent and quick setting.
prolly cause some are not putting on correctly and then they think its cause of the tape
Theres really no secret to installing body kits, especially if it's only a lip. Trust me, I cleaned the surface well, applied the lip under the right temperature, and even let the car sit a few hours, just to be sure. Like I said, I think it depends on the lip, and the climate you drive in.
For the guy thats going to put permanent stuff to hold his lip on. If you are going to go through that much trouble and it's permanent, why not just drill some nice little holes and put some screws in? I dunno just my 0.02
i think a lot of people forget to do the main thing the instructions say. when you apply the tape the surface should be CLEAN and that doesnt mean that ur just supposed to wash the car and its clean. It means ur supposed to wash the car, then get some denatured alcohol to clean the car and the part the tape is being installed to. If you dont do that then it wont bond correctly because the adhesive is sticking to material that is loose so to say. You definatelly dont want any oils which means when your installing it, be careful not to touch the tape with your hands. In any case ive had 3M for 2 years now and its fine and thats exactly how i installed it.
