Can anyone tell me what is better? A custom exhaust or a companys full cat back?
Hey guys,
Lately I have been debating on what is better for my civic. To buy a quality muffler and just get good quality pipes or to go to a company and buy their full cat back?
I know there is a huge price difference but what is better for my car?

I would get the brand name.
It will have a warrenty and you know that it has been research and developled for your car.
I had an exhaust made for my car and I didn't like the result.
I makes weird noises, especially when it rains.
Also, When you get a Brand name cat back system it in most cases has been coated with something which will give your exhaust a longer life time.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY LIKE I DID!

I have a custome exhaust and love it! NO ONE ELSE HAS IT!!! sounds good to. Its a matter of personal oppinion. If your going custom, find a muffler that you like, dont let them just stick you with anything!!
Hopefully the shop you go to have a VARIETY of mufflers for you to try.

Brand. 100% Mandrel piping, bolt-on, & sometimes CARB approved.
Only get custom if you plan on getting mandrel piping.... crush bent really sucks.

well, there are a few ways to look at it, first, as far as power goes, since we get practicly no benefit from an exhaust, mandrel bent pipes dont matter that much, however, on a big motor car such as a Mustang or Camaro, where it is normal to see 10-25 hp with just a cat-back, thats where mandrel bent pipes matters the most. second,if you go with a custom job, make sure theyll let you tryout different mufflers, that way youre satisfied with your choice. and make sure they use STAINLESS STEEL, NOT MILD STEEL, mild steel may be cheaper, but itll start rustin within a year. third, consider what was previously said about warranties and coatings used.
Its a celebration bitches!

the place where i got my mendrel bent piping was near los angeles, La Bree Motorsports. and he put a cutom mendrel bent set up piping for a matrix and he got like 12 dynoed horses to the wheels and the stillin(name brand) exhaust got only 8 horses both on the same dyno, same car...

I still say go with brand... ability to "unbolt" whenever you dont want it anymore.
If you get custom (bent or mandrel) you have to have a shop cut the piping and replace it with whatever you want. Hassle...imo not really worth it. Think about when you're going to trade in your car...

if u dont care about all those rules then
Custom Exhaust -
if its mandrel piping and well done, then the performance will be the same as the name brand ones. cheaper
Brand Name -
Mandrel piping and well finished, tested to highest power output, has warranty and etc... cost more...pay for the name
