Wink Splinedrives & factory lug wrench

I rotate my tires myself every oil change, and are using one of those traditional four ended lug wrenches. I have aftermarket wheels and tuner lugs. I never have used the factory wrench(or jack) my car came with. I recently discovered that this factory wrench does not accept the Splinedrive keys. Since my four ended wrench stays in the garage, I would have been screwed if I'd had a flat somewhere. It just did not imediately occur to me to check this.

Just wanted to pass this along in case someone out there is doing the same thing.

Yeah I have the same problem so I have to carry my toolset in my trunk in case I get a flat. I have to use like the 20 mm socket to loosen my lugs.

It should work it may be tricky and you have to hold it all together but it should work, if not you can buy a wrench from discount tire direct and it folds and will work perfectly.

yipe, I'm gonna have to take car of this lil oversight.

Isn't there also something where you need the OEM lugs to properly mount the spare?

That probably depends on your tuner lug brand, but I found that the splinedrives hold my factory spare on perfectly. No need to keep factory lug nuts around.

I invested in a cheap 1/2" torque wrench and socket that I carry around instead of 4-way lug wrench. Much easier to remove and install plus I can get the torque setting proper.

I bought one of those 4 ended lug-wrenches today for my trunk.

FYI:
Factory Lugs = 19mm
McGard Splinedrive Key = 21mm

(I think.....)

You are right the factoy lugs are 19mm, and I guess your key is 21mm. You can goto a discount tire and ask for a tuner lug key, they should fit and they have both a 19mm and 21mm end on it.

Ok...so you can't use the factory wrench with the adapter tool for the lugs?
