TREO, MB Quart, Focal,....(WR, Lud, Mo) Opinions??
ok, so i go to a Focal dealer today to listen to the poly-kevlar series. When i left the store i left with some new information, and a few more hard choices:
1. have any of you heard of TREO subwoofers? im sure you have, i heard those today and was impressed, they had Jazz playing and the subs sounded amazing. would you recommend them, or MB Quart.
2. i heard the poly-kevlars, and Utopias, as well as MB Quart Q series.
the Utopias are out of my league at $1100 per pair, but i might be intereseted in the poly-kevlars, especially if i can find some for less than the roughly $500 i was quoted. what about MB Quart Q? or P? i havent heard the P series, but i assume they are decent. opinions? what about the subs noted above?
thanks

Well, my best friend has Poly-Kevlars, and I have the Quart PSD's....I really prefer MB Quart over Focal....they have more midbass warmth to my ears, and the tweets sound a little smoother. It's all personal preference though dude....what sounds good to one person doesnt to another. They are both good speakers, we (my friend and I) jus thave different muscal tastes. The Quart Q series is an awesome set of speakers....when I get my door panels finished, I will eventually upgrade....I cant bring myself to put $1500 speakers in the stock locations though....hehe. Make sure you get a good amp for a high end speaker like these though....remember your stereo is only as strong as its weakest link.

polykevlar 165k set runs between 250 and 300 on onlinecarstereo.com, and they offer some nice midbass and some nice crisp sound, they can also take some serious power, and they run at a 2.9 ohm resistance so your amp would be putting out slightly more power (unless its a JL amp)
as to treo, treo makes the csx and ssx, i think a wall of ssx's just broke the world spl record, but i may be mistaken.
mb quart never quite impressed me in their sub department. whats your sub budget, might be able to give ya some suggestions.

I had an hour or so to kill today so i cruised to a few local audio spots ...it is funny how when you are not planning on buying anything that they start knocking off alot off of the price. One store told me he would sell me QSDs for 500 less then the 1499 that he was selling them fo (retail), and another shop offered me 3 12W6 V.2 in a JL box for 700...anywayz. I compared the Boston Pros, QSDs, and PSDs, and IMO opinion the QSD sounded the best...but not worth the 700 dollars more retail then the PSDs. I love the PSDs, but they are lacking in mid-bass, and mid-bass power handling...but the tweets sound about almost as good as the Qs, and the Qs have the best sounding tweets that I have ever heard.
Anywayz, I got fed the usual junk that you get fed buy car audio store...what ever they have is the best, and the rest sucks (which is why they don't carry it
) I let a salesmen at a small shop hear my set up, and he liked my highs...but he said my subs had two much distortion...he then preceded to try and sell me4 W3 V.2s. I was like huh distortion...i was like uhhh ok. I play "Try again" by Aliyah, which has a weird sinth hook in it which maybe he thought was distortion...or maybe since he was not in my car and my car prolly sounded like all the metal was about to come off...anywayz...I was trying to hear distortion, and i coudn't hear it...I asked my friend who has CV Strokers when were pickin up our Tuxes, and he said my stuff sounded good...it is amazing what car audio salesmen can try and put in your head!!!
Just remeber to TRUST YOUR OWN EARS...even if it sucks to everyone else, as long as you think that YOU are in utopia
And for anyone who has Shiva...never show them the subs before you let them hear 'em...they are always judged on looks!!!
Anyway, i'll go ramble on someone elses thread now

THose are pretty much retail prices, I may be a little off, I havent memorized it totaly.
If you go with the PCX480 for the highs, you would bi-wire it, so the speakers would be getting 160 watts per side RMS....I have the next step up, the 4125 sending 250 per side RMS....it SCREAMS.
160 is definately more than enough though. Would sound very nice. You could sub the Focal Poly-Kevlars if you prefer them.Thread
