will our chasis last with aftermarket springs??

Honest question guys, a mechanic came here and took a look at my 4door civic.. i've got nespeed sport, stock shocks, stock everything. anyways, the mechanic said aftermarket springs are too hard for our cars.. they'll eventually cause damage on the suspension system n destroy parts like the front towers - plus you're ride suffers too.. now i'm in doubt with my springs he added that its better to smply cut youre stock springs since they are not to stiff for the car's suspension system... need your help guys? any comments

thanx so much

I agree with spider. If you are worried about your chassis get strut/sway/tie bars and u will be all good, but that mechanic is just plain dumb.

Just make sure you get rear camber kit you should be good to go. You should also expect to change your shocks to an aftermarket one in the next 6-12months(appox.)

a camber kit? do i realy need it? i'm not dropping that low, only 1.75f and 1.5r ... the wheels arent even inside the wheel well yet ...i've got 1 1/2 finger gap up front and i guess 3 fingers at the back.. i'm planning on changing my wheels to 16" but with 195/55/r16 tires.. what do you guys think? do i still need a camber kit? ... I had the car aligned after the installment of my springs

thanx

Thats what you think. How many people hear tested the limits of their car? After a couple of months(and after a couple of upgrades later) test the limit of your car again. Since we drive our cars on the street, eventually withour stiffening our cars, the handling will slowly decrease. My car handles as good as it did when I had the NEx coils and stock tires.

As for the 70s version of a ricer, they where into racing stripes and flames/flares. All the "HOT" rodders had to worry about was the rear axle shifting out of place. The solid frame cars are about 125% more stiffer than unibody cars. Unibody cars are meant to Flex, twist, and cushion the passengers in an accident(crumple zones, anyone?). You guys cannot say anything against this until you get your car aligned and balanced(balanced at all four tires) and see how far off your cars will be. But who here has the money to go that? Someone told me that it was about $1000(minimum) to get it balanced and caged. What's the use to getting it measured out if you do not fix it with reinforcements?

Hehe sorry dude i dont really get the point that youre trying to make... do you think the mechanics right about our chasis and the supesion system like the towers and bushigns are too weak for aftermarket shocks?

thanx

Do they make 16" tires that narrow? I'd go with a 205/45 or 205/40 tire for that

I read somewhere that after-market springs are usually around 20-30% stiffer on average. Someone please correct me on this if I'm way off on this, thanks.

IMO if your just adding after-market springs I would think that you would be okay for the most part, especially if you go with good reputable brand name. Sure a stiffer spring may wear out other components a little faster, but thats the trade-off I suppose.

Also keep in mind that Honda themselves have a factory performance package that they sell which includes lowered springs, though its only an inch drop. Hrrrm.. this makes me wonder why only an inch and what spring rates Honda uses for this. The inch drop could be to keep in mostly within factory alignment spec and to prevent scraping, but now I wish I knew what the spring rate is.. ack.

ummm, 1. it was a joke, and 2. by the 70's about half of the new cars had uni-bodies, the only ones with frames were the big lux cars and trucks for the most part. it started back in the early 60's with the Mustang being one of the first. if you look at the cars that were popular back then, the pony cars, ALL had uni bodies, they had front and rear sub-frames, but so do the new cars.

BTW, i woulda rather grown up in the 60's cause of the cars back then, im a domestic man at heart, nothing against imports though obviously, so if thats why youre offended you shouldnt be

YuP! theyve got 16" Rota's here in the philippines that can fit 195 tires.. i'm going for that since i want to make sure that i wont need a camber kit and that my tires are not extending outside the wheel well - what ya think? also so the ride wouldnt be that bumpy as with 17"s..

Oh and i think for 16" with 205 tires on our civics you gotta have 205/50 to keep the circumference the same as stock
