How do you tune your system?
I have looked for this throughout the forum and in the DIY section and didnt find it. Sorry if this is a repeat.
Anyway, I'm trying to retune my system. Right now the bass is too loud, so after I retune the bass gains ill need to change the highs as well. Is there any step by step procedure I should be following or is it just trial and error playing with the gains? Are there certain sound characteristics I should be looking for while adjusting the gains, or is it just personal preference. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your input.

if you were tuning for competition, i'd tell ya to break out the oscilloscopes and rta's, but since youre not, its all preference... find a song that pretty much has all the things you want in it and toy with things
i have a set of songs that i use
LPF on mid/high amp and also gain, i use Dilated Peoples - Worst comes to worst, because the bass drum for some reason will clip the crap out of my speakers when NOTHING ELSE will....
for sub amp, i use a mixture of sine waves and bjork (specifically "hyper-ballad" and "The Hunter")
for setting treble on eq, i use some deftones, most songs on the White Pony album, the vocals are so breathy and crisp that they can make you go deaf
for all around midrange, Nine inch nails, any of their harder stuff.. lotsa harsh midrange...
then i sit down and enjoy my creation by throwing on some Tool ....
