Tire pressure to run for AutoX
I'm going to an autocross competition in march, and I want to know what you guys reccomending for tirepressure. The course is on asphalt, and I have 17" rims, neuspeed sport lowering springs, and am using Yokohama prada tires. Just wondering what pressure you reccomend. Thanks!
Go with smaller wheels Wobbie! For my 15" GSR wheels with Falken Azenis I stick with 42 up front and 38 in the back BTW hit me up on AIM Wobbie: ChiBunHoy

Long time no see on that one...
Well, he's got the 17's. I assume that you want to run with those... There are tradeoffs betwean smaller wheels and larger wheels when autocrossing. Larger wheels will be stiffer, so you don't need to run as high a pressure as smaller wheels. Smaller wheels will be lighter and will have a lower inertial moment (easier to spin). I run my 215/45-17's at 32psi in front and 30psi in the back. I found this setting to break loose a little too easy though, so maybe I'll step it down two psi and see what happens. Remember that if the pressure is too high then your contact patch will be smaller. A smaller contact patch means less grip.

Last seson I tested a few setups. note that I was using 17 X 7' Rims with 205/40 tires. I was running Falken 502's aswell.
1. 32 front 30 rear. This is what I run stock on the street. Heavy understeer, excessive tire rollover on front tires no rollover on rear. (check with white tick marks on tire)
2. 40 Front 27 rear. fun setup, optimum rollover on front tires, good rollover on rear. Moderate understeer to oversteer ( Spun car on last slalom, but with spin was only 3 sec off my best time of the day.)
3. 40 front 30 rear. This is what I typically run with, Good stable setup for me. Moderate to Heavy understeer.
here are some starting points for PSI when autocrossing
---------------------------------------
Front Wheel Drive
Front 35-45 psi
Rear 30-40 psi
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Front Engine/Rear Drive
Front 35-45 psi
Rear 30-40 psi
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rear Engine/Rear Drive
Front 35-45 psi
Rear 35-40psi
Get a Tire Pyromiter!!!!! you can tell a greatdeal about what your tire is doing by the temp of the tire in vairous places on the contact patch!
Tire rollover can only tell you so much, and it is easy to confuse low tire pressure with inadiquite camber angle.
talk to people at the track, maybe some one will let you use theirs.
