K20A Swap ECU Question
I just bought a K20A JDM Type R. I have not actually done the swap yet, but have been confronted with the issue of getting the ECU and the Immobilizer to work with our factory keys. I have heard that you can and cannot remmover the immobilizer. I have heard that I am basically out of luck if I don't have the key that comes with the engine. I have also heard that I can just order a JDM key and a Honda dealership can program it. Does anyone know anything about how to do this?

Honda dealerships can reprogram the keys to work with the new ECU or the old ECU, or you can just by that Immobilizer bypass unit they sell on the internet and not worry about it anymore because it doesn't really do anything for you anyways.

yeah, I contacted the dealership a little while ago and I am still waiting on them to call me back. Their technician said that I "stumped" him. He says that he is not sure if the Type-R ECU will accept the code from the keys, because it is technically an Acura ECU and they are Honda Keys. I asked him if the could just order me Acura Keys then and he said he was not sure if that would work either.

It should work, but I have never tried it before so I can't say for sure but I do wish you the best of luck on the swap, you will be one of but a few people on this board with that swap done then.

Yeah, the technician that I know at Honda just called me back and said that all he would need would be the wiring diagram for the Type-R and they would be able to ground the immobilizer out and bypass it. He said that three of his technicians all concured on that. It would be about $60.00-$65.00. How is your swap going so far?...I have read that you were doing it on here on a couple of different threads. I am anxious to get started on mine, but I am still collecting parts and getting everything laid out. I also would like to get my brake kit before I start the swap so I can do it all at once. I am kinda mad that I have to get new rims, but I can get them at cost from some local hookups. Thanks for the info. If you run into any problems or anything with your swap can you please e-mail me at Jbrav20ua@aol.com. I would like to know what problems I will have to encounter that might jump out. I think the only thing that I am still unsure about is the axles and the suspension system, as far as how all of that is going to go together.

Ha, I am not sure how that works. From what I understand from my tech. is that he has to have to wiring diagram to see what wires are what and then they can take the ground and some other wire?? and ground them both out. This somehow disables the immobilizer and lets me starts my car. He told me if I had any more questions to come see him when I get my oil changed and he will show me on some diagrams how they are going to do it. I am just glad they can. I was starting to get worried about the swap. I didn't want to do the swap if I couldn't even start the dang car. I have pictures of my car on here now, and I will update them as I do the swap. Unlike everyonelse who is doing it though, It is going to be a long process for me, we are kinda doing this on the side like after work. So it might be a while, lol
