It does look like a grand prix. With an LS1 engine of course. I say it'll prolly do mid/low 14's at best.
anyone know if it's FWD?

The new 2004 Poniac GTO is actaully a Holden Comodore SS coupe, already available and built in Australia. GM USA also wanted Holden Australia (Which is GM Australia) to build the El Camino for the US market which is sold there as a Holden SS Ute. However the Holden company turned them down due to the fact that they are already manufacturing the UTES at maximum capacity and would not be able to keep up with the expected demand the USA would present. Australia has stayed with the rear wheel drive muscle car all along while the USA went astray to front wheel drive cars. The Holden SS is a high performance car with a LT1 Corvette motor and a six speed stick shift. This new Pontiac GTO is going to be a hot car. The photos do not do this car any justice, wait till you see it in the flesh. By the way, Holden is looking at bringing an all wheel drive version soon which I expect or hope GM USA imports as part of the Pontiac GTO line.

By the way GM has gotten better and better since Bob Lutz joined the company.

Is it just me or does it look kinda wimpy? It doesn't look as harsh and beast-like the earlier models did.

I am sure you meant to say the LS1, NOT LT1, the LS1 is the previous camaro/firebird v8. The LT1 is the corvette engine and IS NOT in the new GTO.
The LS1 will be in the new GTO. The new GTO is a replacement for the camaro/firebird. The high end versions of the camaro and firebird had corvette engines in them. I know because I used to have a trans am, and the parts cost big $$$.
Here is the Australian version of the Pontiac GTO Click here

The 1994 was the last Corvette to use the LT1 engine. 1995 used an LT5 and 1996 used an LT4. Since the body change in 1997, the Corvette engine has been the infamous LS1.

1996 was the last year for the LT1 in the Corvette In that year they used both the LT1 and the LT4. The LT5 was used betwen 1991 and 1995 Known as the ZR1 Corvette. All the Z28's, SS's, Formulas,TranaAm's, Firehawks, WS6's had the Corvette LS1's. The GTO is not the replacement for the F-bodies.

Okay, you're right and wrong.
1) You're right about the Corvette engines and their years. I made a mistake.
2) I should have worded it differently concerning the GTO replacing the F-bodies. I know the car is not a direct replacement for them. However, with the retirement of the camaro/firebird, something is needed to fill the demand for that market, which is where the GTO comes into play.
3) You are wrong about all Trans Ams, etc. having the LS1 engine. I had a 1994 Trans Am, and it had an LT1 engine. I know because I spent plenty of time and money working on it.
I don't agree with Poniacs desicion to bring back the GTO. The last GTO, if I'm not mistaken, was made in 1974. They should have let the name live on as an American muscle car. If they wanted to bring it back into production I think they should have slightly renamed the car. Call it....... GTO-2 or something, just to seperate it from it's better predecessor.

Let me rephrase what I was saying 1993 through 1997 the V8 F-bodies got te LT1's or the LT4's like the Vettes. In 1998 through 2002 the V8 F-bodiesgot the LS1 like the Vettes.
they screwed up with the facelift.. way too grand am /grand prix -ish
this is how it's supposed to look like, seems like the car was detuned for america, too.. it's supposed to pack 400hp
