Why do only Escorts want to race me?

I'm coming home from school today and I pass this old busted joint(the Ford Escort Automatic). It looked like a late 80's, early 90's model LX. They guy had bubbled up tinted windows, bolt on muffler tip attachemnt to the exhaust(like an APC part, not an actual new muffler), and Chrome wheels that are probably worth more than the car.

Well I was going about 60mph (in a 45 ) and I see him start to speed up behind me so I slow down a bit to see what his deal is. And he looks over at me. At this point I see one of those huge Broadway Mirrors attached to his car. Well, the light in front of us turns red and we both line up.

I don't rev or anything because I have yet to know if he actually wants to run me. Light turns green and he punches it. Not one to be showed up, I drop the hammer and pull ahead of him while still in 1st gear!! By the time I was into third gear he had to be at least 8 cars back.

Damn Escorts are too easy. I wish that there were more Civics that want to run down here. I'm getting tired of seeing only Escorts.

I drove a 88 Escort once.... 90hp I think, plus 3spd auto........ it was slo as a ****... and those huge chrome wheels people put on their cars, must weight 550000lbs each. I hate those... and have you seen the ones that have a piece on the outside that spins seperately from the wheels? Looks like a really expensive fan..... maybe to cool the brakes?

I mean if they are worth more than the car itself.... it just seems wrong to me. Too flashy for me, just a personal opinion...

Because it's stupid to spend $100 bucks on a car, and then spend $1500 on the rims.

i have been under the impression that "sprewells" (the spinning rims) cost multiple thousands....5000-7000 in that area.

even if they are 3000, i dont see any point in spending that much on rims....if i had 3 grand to play with right now, I could think of a hundred things I would rather use the money on.

because you're talking about $7000 plus wheels, while the original post describes a set of chromes on a $500 car.

The Sprewell-type spinning rims for Escalades (companies such as sprewell racing and Davin) are easily over 10k just for the Rims!!!!!!! Then you have to sell your soul to the devil to buy those 24 inch tires!!!!! I can't even imagine.
