The Proper Way to Street Race
The Proper Way to Street Race
from reading all these posts, i see one thing: people are doing waaay too many stupid things street racing.
where to race:
- the roads must be clear. inclement weather = no race.
- no traffic on the stretch of road for what the eye can see is the safest.
- the road has to be straight for well over a 1/4 mile.
- if you see traffic up ahead, DO NOT WEAVE IN AND OUT OF IT. you are to slow down because if for some reason you do hit traffic, the race is over with no winner anyway.
- no place where bystanders are, and no place where it is possible to lose control and fly up on a curb and kill someone.
when to race:
- you do not race when you are filled with emotions. doesnt matter if they are good or bad ones, emotions cloud judgement.
- do not race right after you leave somewhere like work or school. see the step above for clarification.
- do not race with any passenger in the car. none. so you want to bring a cameraman? stfu and mount it in the car so it can operate hands free and you dont need a cameraman. i cant stress this enough YOU DO NOT RACE WITH ANY LIVING PASSENGER IN THE CAR
- late night//early morning is preferable due to less human activity on or around roads. just dont race where dear are active.
what to do:
- if you are going from a dig, both cars line up at a standstill. one car beeps and on the third beep holds the horn down as a signal to go.
- if you have a flagger, make sure he is not inbetween both cars. there is the chance that he could get smushed between them. have the flagger stand at the side of the road.
- from a roll, make sure you are in the lowest gear before you have to shift for fuel cut (~7k rpm in our vics).
- from a roll, you line up from a certain speed, and follow the beep procedure of signalling start.
- while you dont want to hit fuel cutoff, you want to get as close to it as possible before you shift. only problem is people like to look down to see the tach if racing. do not do this, you cannot take your eyes off the road. get a shift light.
- if an animal jumps out and is deer size or larger, swerve if nobody is coming and the guy you are racing isnt right next to you. if it is smaller than a deer, run it over. ive had this happen a lot. skunks, chipmunks, squirrels and the like. they all get flattened. dont gimme any of that bs "we'll the animal has rights too" because what would you have? dead human or dead animal?
- have a finish line
- if you win, you win. dont go crazy, its not like you have the fastest car in the world.
- if you lose, dont make excuses. just say "i lost" and thats the end of that. in other words: ::arnold voice:: STOP WHINING!!!
more to be added later when i dont have such a brain fog.
oh yea and moderators, if you like these "rules for street racing" plz sticky.

Good tips, good advise. It's good to know that there are at least some smart racers on here. Me not being one of them. Good to know that you as a driver know that you are responsible for your passengers saftey at all times.

due to the youth/invinciblity syndrome, saying dont street race will never make anyone stop racing on the streets.

proper rules for racing.
1. Go to your local track, if there isn't one near you find one, or don't race.
2. pay the fee that is required for track use
3. wait till the christmas tree turns green before you go.
4. Collect your timeslip after the run is over.
5. If you win don't be a d**k
6. If you loose, oh well try again.

I used to street race a good bit, thats not saying I don't ever do it because I love the rush just as much as you. Maybe I'm older and wiser cuz when some people rev at me I just laugh. But you did leave out one thing in your list....to keep a lookout to make sure there are no cops around.
I sure wish my car was newer

not only that, if you get into a wreck and you live, while your passenger dies, you end up in a world of **** with the law, and nobody will every trust you again. oh and youll probably want to kill yourself, in which case i wouldnt say "no no life is sacred" i would say "well, its fair retribution"
these tips are good man.....good job
The more you forbade street racing, the more likely one is going to exercise this practice.....
it is a similar comparison to non-abstinence.....
if your parents objected to you having sex until you get married at age 30....
will you HONESTLY wait until 30 years-old?
Statistics stated roughly 56% of teens admitted to have intercourse during their high school years...(12th grade research project)
so what i'm trying to say is....to those 56%...it is encouraged to use protection
take a poll of the people on this site who street race or even run it on the track....(one may be safer than the other but racing is racing isn't it?)

I know you had good intentions with the street racing tips, but lets face it: street racing is illegal and dangerous.
I don't see one thread in this forum that follows any of these "tips". Is this just a way to make yourself feel better about breaking the law and putting others at risk? Any number of things can happen during a race, including mechanical failure. Please, in order to keep the public and yourself safe...take it to the track.

Yes, thank you Eclipse for clearing that up.
A mechanical failure on the track is a lot better than having one of the streets. There are more people to make sure you are alright, and probably an EMT nearby. On a street, if a tire goes, or something else...you may wind up hitting another car or worse...hitting a person.
An another note...I was driving home on New Year's and was approaching a intersection with two stop signs ( i have the right of way). I noticed a car coming from my left, and it wasn't slowing down. I had to jam on the brakes...and the guy didn't stop. He missed my car by about a foot (i swear he was gonna T-bone me) and went straight through a stop sign (acutally flattened the sign) and crashed in someone's front yard. They were not hurt, and I was very stunned. But, being in Mass, we have a good amount of snow and getting their car out was no easy task. After I got my nerves back, i got angry. They almost killed me because they were drunk. I didn't bother to help them because of that, and the fact that they were out of the car trying to get it back on the road (they couldn't though). As I drove away, I picked up my cellphone and called 911 as an anonymous caller. Hopefully, they were still stuck by the time the cops came.

Oh dear goodness. Why not give tips on how to juggle knives or shoot a loaded gun at your friend with an apple on his head. Yes, Street Racing has been around since forever and will probably never go away, but it's still childish and stupid. Don't get me wrong, if you want to find a deserted country road, with no one in sight for miles, go ahead, race till your blue in the face or you lose control and flip and hurt yourself, I could care less. But please don't be a f**k head and race in traffic, weaving in and out of cars, during rush hour or in residential areas. That's just f**kin rediculous.
My point:
·If your gonna street race, do it by yourself out in the middle of f**king no where, so if you hurt anyone, it will be just yourself, or
·Keep it on the track, where it's supervised.

even if u on the track....u are still endangering your own life.....
basically....racing is racing and is dangerous even in controlled environment....
if u wanna race....go play Grand Turismo or something
