:( Tint problem [defrost/radio too]

Okay..I was so happy to get my windows tinted yesterday and the place I got it from is great. But anyways, today I noticed when I put my defroster on for the back...WITH my radio on...I'm having terrible static-sounds. But when I took the defrost off, it was fine. After that, I tried putting it on while I had a CD in...and that worked fine.

So basically...the radio is the only thing getting static problems. I'm thinking it has something to do with the tint being put on the back..and you know how the Civics have the antenna stuff on the back window? Well I don't know if it's not getting a good radio pick-up from the tint or what..if you all understand that. Anybody had this problem before with getting their car tinted? ;confused; Any suggestions on what I should do??? THANKYOU!

Someone posted the exact same problem a few days ago. He/she had the windows tinted and it resulted in reception problems with the rear defrost on. Leads me to believe that it has got to be something about tint. I wonder if you all have the same brand or type..hmmm

Just to let you know, my window tint guy told me not to use the rear window defroster because it will release the tint glue, and after a few months you'll see the tint come away from the window, and you'll have those "bubble" lines on your rear window where the defroster element lines are.

I also have this problem. The mechanics at the dealership have said they see this quite often. It seems to be the the shielding properties of the metalic window tint. Almost all window tint nowadays has a metalic layer in it. It prevents fading (or so says my window tinter). Nothing you can do short of installing an antenna, replacing the metalic tint with a non-metalic one or getting a better radio/CD unit. A new radio may not do it.

I dont know I got black tint installed. I know it has nothing to do with color..but rather material and things in it. My Honda Accord I had that got tined never had defrost/radio problems. BUT it was another car, plus another place I got it installed. It might have something to do with the Civics.

What's in your trunk? Believe it or not...if you carry alot of metal objects in your trunk, turning on the defroster will kill your radio reception. Who knew?

It's not just the tint. I don't have tint on my car and I have the same problem. I think mine is because i had used a razor to take off some tape on the rear window and accidentally took a little of the strip off too. Easy solution, anytime the defroster is on, listen to a cd.

I got my windows tinted this morning. It's 35% black tint, all my windows *except windsheild of course* and the first thing I did was check my defroster because I read this forum before I had mine tinted. I dont have any problems, yet. Knock On wood.

Got my windows tinted 20% mirror and the radio and defrosters work fine. I don't even have to use the defroster cause the tint seems to repel fog, plus I can't see out of my back windshield at night anyways.

I found that after the tint dries (like 2-3 weeks) the reception improved. I usually don't use the defroster, but I've noticed it doesn't make much difference. I don't have metallic tint though, its just 35% black.

It isn't a "problem". As if the tint is metallic then it's a little worse, but all that happens is a slight decrease in radio reception as you get very far away from the source. The easy solution is to just pop in a CD or change the station. It's such a minor inconvience, it really shouldn't bother you.

I tried the defroster/radio trick, and i don't get any far away stations. But, like boilermaker said, just pop in a CD. LAGWAGON
