Has anyone had this problem?

I went to shift my car into third but it didnt go! My shifter was just all loose as thought it wasnt attached to anything. It felt like the **** was just attached to the boot and thats it. You could flick the shift **** and it would just move around. It only goes up and down (like where it would go into first and second) but it dosn't go into anything. It's like theirs nothing there!
I can drive the car, but only in second. The shifter ISNT in second gear though. It isnt in any, and you cant put it in any!!! Its weird. I didnt think it would have been safe to drive it anymore so I got honda roadside assistance to haul it over to roadsport honda.
Anyways...Anyone have this problem? Anyone hear of this problem?

have you checked the linkage? it might have been one of the cables that slipped off of the shifter. do you have a short shift adapter on? i've heard about the adapter coming loose and the problem is as you described...... hope you get your car back soon...
