im dropping my car 2 inchs im still not sure of what size rims to get 215/40/ 18 or 215/40/ 17


and is there a big difference in the way car drives(handling or bouncy) in 17 or 18

18s are just right. go with a 215/40, not a 35.

well it depends on the tire size. since they're both 215-40 tires it should ride the same. i personally think 17s are too small and would never get them. thats just me tho. dropping it with 18s and a 2" with a correct camber kit might give you problems. i currently have 215-40-18(hate it btw, my car looks stock height with a small fender gap, i would go with 35s next time) on neuspeed sports(hate this too cause you cant even tell the car is droped, i would go with race next time) and no camber kit. 1 finger gap all around, no problems at all. but i think if i had a correct camber i would have a slight problem with it rubbing against the rear fender lip so i would probably have to roll them a little

I just got my rims. They're 17x7, and I sort of wish they were a little bigger. But it was an issue of money and convienance for me. I didn't want to mess with the camber right away, because I didn't have the money. I didn't want 35 profile tires either. I'll go big baller when I get a big baller car, I think 17s are perfect for Civics, but thats my taste. I don't want my car to stand out too much, just noticably different from stock. If you've got the money, and its your style, go for 18s.

yea i got 215/40/18 and neuspeed race on the way with an SPC camber. if i have problems i'll roll the fender and run with a negative camber. (advice from vnlilman) so i'll tell you guys how it goes when they are on.

Yeah I bought the 17" rim with 215/45 and when I got them I wish I would have bought 18" rims but I also didn't want my car to really stand out. Plus with all this rain coming down around here the potholes are going to be coming out soon. But yeah if you are between sizes I say go bigger.

17's, cheaper, better fit and drive, you'll need real low profs with 18's and you will be driving real harsh, do not hit any bumps or your rims will get bent real easily if you go w/18's

better fit? not to me. better drive? not always. need real low pros, not always. drive harsh, it'll drive just as bad/good as 17s depending on tires. easily bent rim? i've hit a couple pot holes real hard(its hard to dodge all of them in the ghetto streets of LA) and they're still fine.
but ya like i said it all depends on the tires.. you get 215-40-17 or 215-40-18, they have exactly the same size sidewall. how is the ride or chance of bending a rim any different?

Yes. Your camber gets slightly affected when you put on larger rims. Your whole car is sitting at a different height if you add 4 inches to rim size. Get an alignment and have the techs print a read out, you'll see the difference.

thats what i thought at first but thats not the case... 5" tires compared to 20" tires, the cambers still going to be the same. i thought camber was effected by ride height but i was making the wrong association, just like you are now. camber is effected when you lower a car but its not cause your lowering the ride height, its cause your changing the degrees on the suspension.
eh, sorry i cant explain it too well. if you still cant understand i'll try to find better words or even draw a picture to show you. but ya changing tire/wheel sizes doesnt effect camber.

if you lower and keep a slightly negative camber than tires are least likley to rub but they'll wear much quicker. i say lower it, have the correct camber, and roll your fenders. BTW, how much does rolling fenders cost. the guy at hte local shop quote me at 500 just to roll them.

19"s LOL if you wanna be broke when someone jackes em [IMG]i/expressions/laugh2.gif[/IMG] or bend a rim every few weeks the roads around here are hidious since we get so much rain and have studed tires in this state. I would have 19" rims for show and thats it. 18" or 17" look good on civics.

Go with a 215-35-18 it is going to look the best on the car.
