I've heard that the filter gets dirty much faster in the winter due to the sand and salt they put on roads when it snows. So you would just have to clean it more often. If you don't have heavy rain or puddles where the filter may get wet and freeze when it's cold enough, then you should be fine.

By the way, the bypass valve does nothing unless the entire filter is submerged in water.

I've also heard that with AEM CAI you can take it apart and convert it into SRI. This would be the best way to go.

you don't have to clean it that often anyway. i left mine on last winter and had no problems at all. if you want to make it an SRI, that's not a bad idea. but if you're worried about time put in vs. benefit received, i wouldn't worry about it at all.

Going on my second winter with a CAI installed. No problems and it sounds wicked around the -20 mark! Oh well, it gets dirty a lot faster.
