I'm not sure of the exact size but I know that its a little under 3". The first few oem filters that I got were all a little under 3" so my 3" filter wrench that i bought didnt fit, so i had to use my hands to get it off.

The filter is about 2.75". But I was able to get it off with my hand. You may not need it. If the dealer has done it once already, they may have hand tightened it rather than wrenched it on, in which case it will come off easily. But if it's still factory, you may have trouble.

easiest way to get em off is to ram a screw driver through em and turn...or buy the k&n ones with the little nut on it

Oil filter wrenches are good to have as it is pretty hard getting back in there to take off the oil filter...speaking of which, mine is due for a change real soon!

I bought a bunch of the new type oil filters from HandA .com,(they are larger than the stock ones) they will sell you a rachet type filter socket for $17. I took a new filter to the parts store and found a filter socket that fit perfectly for $3.
