Just finished retro fitting Audi A6 HID projectors in to TYC Projector

It took alot of work but it is finaly done. I have pics as soon as I create a page for them but for now I have a small video clip you can see. Now my headlights blink just like Audi's, BMW's, S2000 does. The files size on the movie is kinda big for a small clip so sorry about that for people on dial up.Audi A6 in TYC You'll have to right click and download it before playing, it is in quicktime mov format.

Wow, that's sweet! I just installed my HID's on my ride and they look bad a$$ too. I don't have the projectors, but for HID's on the stock housings, it's a big difference.

Ok, I just put together a quick page for the pictures. I'll try to get more night pictures of the beam pattern. The only bad thing about the way I did this is that I cannot aim the lights. It took me and a friend a very long time to get them the way they are now but it is still pointing alittle too high. Finish A6 into TYC

What's funny is that you had to jimmy rig projectors into projectors. You'd think they'd sell these headlights with the fittings to put HID's in them. Or at least offer another model number for the headlight for HID lighting rather than plain old bulbs.

Good job with the fitting

Because the TYC projectors were not made for HID's, the A6 projectors were made for HID's

Good retro. I its a grueling task for any DIYer to get that far. I'm gonna do the same retrofit except with Hella 90MM HID's instead so that the beam can be corrected once it has been retrofitted. What tools did you use? And how did you wire the ballast?

If you guys or gals want to try this, I would recommend getting smaller projectors. Cost wise it is going to be the cost of the TYC projector, $200 - $269 + $100 - $170 for the Audi A6 projectors + the epoxy clay $20 per pound. I used a dremel tool to cut open the TYCs. I think it is worth the money to me because I get more usable light because the beam pattern is wider. There is a nice cut off point on Audi Hid projectors that gives you that blue blink that the stock TYC projectors would not give. Yes it is alot of money and time to do this but I think you can get everything cheaper. Since I already had HID's in the first place in the stock housing, all I had to do was put in the HID bulb in the Audi A6 projectors which fit perfectly. I then made a wiring harness to split the output of the stock harness from the car so I can plug in my HID setup on one and the other I had wired only the high beam and ground wire to plug in the high beam bulb on the TYCs.

Here's you chance to get these Audi projectors. They are on ebay. Audi Projectors This is the same guy I bought mine from. I don't know where he gets these, he seems to always have them. Check out his other listings as well, He has other HID projectors too from other cars.

I live in Portland but I'm sure you can do it. I just cut a hole to fit the projector and stuff epoxy clay to hold it in place. Easier said then done huh.

Man I say it over and over again, but if you put HID's into a housing that's stock your lighting is worse. The parabolic arc, focal direction is custom for each car. If you just stick HID's into stock your lighting's a lot more dangerous than stock lights. Yes, you think HID's are brighter and it looks pretty, but stick with your yellow lights or halogen upgrades, lest you buy the whole HID projector unit.

I liken people who do this to people who put wings on their FF cars thinking the rear downforce will make the cars handle better. Just because it looks white doesn't mean it looks better. Nor does buying blue bulbs make your lighting any better.

I had Hid's in my stock H4 housing, but like AKI said it wasn't the best pattern. Unfortunately water got in between my bulb and blew my ballast connector, soldering new pins should work. This leaves me with one fully functional ballast and bulb and one fixable ballast with a detonated bulb. I am definately gonna do the same retrofit as PDXbiker did except im gonna use lexansheet and plastidip my entire rear housing so that I can still aim the lights by adjusting the four screws in the back of the projector units. PDXbiker you know those four screws are what aims the light, why didn't you just use the four screws and then lexansheet a box around the housing once everything was aimed right? Im gonna use one of these projectors hella aftermarket projectors. So that i won't have any wiring problems just dremel & plug and play (yeah right its gonna be that easy).

Mine did not have those screws, I wish there was so I can aim them better. When you do cut into your projector make sure you try to vac what you cut so it will reduce the amount of stuff falling inside the projector. I had a big problem of stuff getting inside the light. The plastic inside is easy to scratch. It is pretty hard to get all the plastic shavings out of the headlight after cutting into it, I still have some in there.

The hid setup was not included with the audi a6 projectors. I only got the projector units that are inside the Audi a6 headlight. If you do purchase projectors make sure they were made for HIDs.
