mpg loss with new intake?
hey has anyone noticed a big loss of mpg with a new intake? I want to get one but when I placed a cone filter over the intake manifold for a week, I had to fill up a lot more. I mean almost twice as much. i was hoping this isn't the case with a real intake. Let me know. Thanks, oh also does anyone know anything about a dropin filter by K&N coming out?
Thanks
chris
Thanks

um ......... YES. the whole reason that the new intake adds power is because it allows more air to get to the engine. more air needs more fuel to burn properly for the engine, and if you're burning more fuel, then obviously your mileage will go down. this is NORMAL. if you want your mileage back, put the stock intake back on.
actually it gives you better mpg... but some people enjoy the sound and take a thrill out of revving the car a little higher and etc... i'm pretty sure that once you kinda take it easy you should see some mpg gains
Oh yah my mpg is dropping, but our cars are still awesome on gas.
Why do people complain about loss of mpg when they've modified their engine to give a little bit more performance.
You can never gain anything without giving something up.
So you lost 4mpg, so what. You're going to have to have to pay an extra $2.50 at the pump.. Big whoop!
Compare this to the cost of what a SUV pays.

I'm still getting 37 MPG average with my Injen on there. Just don't floor it every chance you get. Yes the sound is cool, but it wastes gas like a ****.
