K&N drop-in filter
K&N drop-in filter
i called SpeedTech and they quoted me $70 (estimate cuz they have the part number but not 100% sure on the price yet)
so the more ppl ordered the filter the cheaper it will be
so far Keigo and I are interested.....post here if u would like to buy one and we can organize a groupbuy for this

umm.....wierd......u know cold air intake u dont know air filters...............well, depends on who, some ppl like to dress up their engine, some ppl dont wanna spend as much on dressing up the engine, either way, both k&n filters or any cai wont give u much performance, but the whole intake is a bit better of course, its more expensive

and no, either u replace your stock air filter with k&n one or u replace your stock intake, theres no addition to cai
How much does a stock air filter cost? The replacement interval for the stock filter is.... what... every 32k?
How much are the filter recharge kits, and how easy is it to get?

sorry, it was just referred to as a 'drop-in filter' no one ever specified it was an air filter
Thanks for the info. How much more would it cost me to get a complete CAI system? If $50 for the air filter helps a bit perhaps its worth it vs. spending a few hundred on a CAI and it only being slightly better.

o, haha, recharger kit is the drop in filter, except u can wash it again and again and use it much much longer than stock air filter, cai is around 300-350 depends on what kind, but i guess if u spend around that much and u dont care much how the engine looks, get the fipk intake from k&n for about 50cad more, its a short ram with a heat shield, and a few ppl who have it say it out perform cai, mine should be in sometime this week, hope its good

I think I'm gonna go pick up one of these K&N drop-in / recharger's for $50-70 at crappy tire and see if I notice any difference, thx.
Are they universal or do I need to get the one specifically made for the 01/02 Civic?
Anyone know the Crappy Tire part #?

I've talked to several Canadian Tire stores and the K&N drop-in replacement filter is $71, part number 33-2192. However, the stores don't stock them so they have to be special ordered, and an extra $20 special order charge is levied. This brings it to $91 + 15% tax, is $104.65.
I ordered the K&N drop-in from the U.S., and am having it shipped to a friend in Chicago who will then redirect it to me.

Well, ideally if the drop in filter is less restrictive than stock, then I guess there would be more air flow, in return for increased horsepower. The question is, does K&N make air filter that much more advanced than Honda's OEM?
I stated before that I had a short ram intake, and I *LOST* power. Well, maybe not peak.. but over all, it was a lot slower and less responsive. I am definitely thinking about going with the drop in filter..... but Crappy Tire's $20 special delivery charge bothers me.
Maybe we can do a mini-group buy, and split on the $20? I'm sure they don't have to charge $20 PER filter that gets ordered... or maybe they'll even waive it all together if we buy like 5.

so what ur saying is that the drop in filter makes more or equal power as a regular name brand INTAKE?
hahaha i doubt it!
theres a reason why it cost that much and a name brand intake cost more lol

Well, it's a fact that some aftermarket products do reduce power when put on the dyno. And I am actually referring to across the entire powerband (horsepower sampled at ever 1K RPM, from idle to redline).
Don't forget, most SRIs reduces torque and increases peak horsepower. This is great for cars with short gearing and standard transmission, since you get you keep your revs up. But NOT for automatics with super long gearing.
Besides the theory, I actually tested it out. My when I had SRI, I lost to my own s-hit box Corolla ('92, 1.6L, 3-speed auto). After putting the stock intake on, I beat it no problem.
As for the cost--aftermarket doesn't cost more. Typical SRIs can be bought for well under $140. I think the OEM Honda intake system, if you lost it for whatever reason, would cost significantly more.
And think about it--who is smarter? Honda engineers, or Reactive engineers? As for the CAI, everybody knows this is true performance improvement. But the reason why Honda or other makers don't use it is because of risk factors (water going into engine).

True true.. and a lot of car makers are going this route. Checked out the engine bay for a stock Elantra GT, and it also had a heat shield around its "intake system".. it worked too, the temperature was totally different.

I visited my local crappy tire and they told me they couldn't even order the K&N filter for the 7th gen, the code (33-2192) wasn't in their special order book, and that I'd have to wait until January when the 2003 Parts book came out to see if it was listed in there.
