What size tires rub/don't rub on 17's?

So I've decided that I'm gonna get some 17's for my car. Now my problem is what size tire. I want to get 215/45/17 which is just a lil' bit bigger in diameter than the diameter of the stock tire. The problem is, that's 30mm wider than the stock tire. There's got to be some rubbing action going on there.

I would prefer the diameter of the new tire be larger than the stock diameter cause I would rather have my odometer read less miles than I actually have rather than more miles than I actually. But that's the least of my worries.

I just want to know what size tires other people with 17's have and if they rub or not. Also if you've made any mods to keep it from rubbing, like a camber kit or shaving the fenders.

If anyone has had rubbing, could you post a pic of where it rubs? That would be awesome! Thanks!

215/45/17 fits with no rub. I have them.

my car is not lowered - it is stock height. lowering MIGHT affect rubbing. depends how much u lower it.

My 215/45/17's rub in back with my Rota Attacks when I raise the car to take the wheels off. Not when I drive though. When I get an aftermarket suspension that's stiffer and lower it won't do that anymore since the part that rubs will be on the inside of the wheel where the cavity is.

My rear with 215/45/17 rubs if the camber is fairly perpendicular to the ground. If the camber is negative, you won't rub the fender, but you'll get some bad tire wear. I dropped the car down with 1 1/2 fender fingers in the rear. I'm planning to go crazy with my bat and attempt to roll my fenders. People make it sound so easy to do.

Ditto that. DuYaKnow, I think we have the exact same setup (B&Gs @ 1.5 fingers & 215/45R17) right now. My wheels are 42mm offset if that makes a difference. I'm eyeing some galvanized pipe I have laying around and thinking it'd be good for rolling fenders. With a rag in between the pipe and fender of course.

how about 225/45-17 with 1.7 "drop?

i have 205/40-17 now and it seems like i got plenty of space to add girth to the sidewall, but my rim lip shows (7.5 width) so i want some wider tires like 225.

you want a wider tire but why would you want a bigger sidewall? just get 225-40-17 then. the sidewalls going to be bigger then the 205-40 but atleast it wont be that big. n with 225-40-17, you shouldnt have problems with rubbing

215/45R17 Kumho Ecsta 711s on 17x7x42mm 5zigen Fighters.
Front: 1/2 finger gap
Rear: 1 finger gap
Fronts rub inner fender during bumps (like intersections where the perpendicular street is higer)
Rears tuck (my fenders are slightly rolled and tuck will depend on your camber setting)

nevermind, i dont think they even make that size sorry, not too familiar with 17s. closest thing would be 235-40 or 225-35 but i think the 235 are a lil to wide and 225-35 a lil too thin.

The only problem with a 40 sidewall is too small for bad roads. A big enough pothole would kill the tire and damage the rim(s). Who has successfully rolled their fenders?

eh, 40 isnt that small... my friend hit a 90 degree angle peice of cement going 40 mph and he cracked his rim but i've hit a couple of potholes myself and my rims/tires are still fine. the roads here in the ghetto streets of LA arent too pretty but my rims are still fine.
