remote turn-on from amp keeps blowin cig lighter fuse!?!?!??!??!
ok, here's the problem:
1- i spliced into the cig lighter positive to connect the remote turn-on for my amp.
2- i put a rocker switch between the cig lighter and the amp.
3- the ground on the switch it connected to the negative on the cig lighter.
4- when i flip the switch to the "on" position it blows the cig lighter fuse (10A).
5- i tried puting a 15A then a 20A fuse and they both blew.
6- is the problem that i didn't ground the switch (ground from switch is connected to negative on cig lighter) ???
7- or is the problem the cig lighter positive to begin with, should i splice into a diferent power source? if so, where? is there a remote lead from the factory head unit?
PLEASE ADVISE ME ON WHAT TO DO< EVERYTHING IS INSTALLED AND THIS LITTLE FUSE PROBLEM IS HOLDING ME BACK!!!

Why in the hell did you spend all the money on speaker WITHOUT replacing the headunit?
In answer to your question, most likely you answered your question, put in the bigger 20a fuse and ground the switch to the frame of the car, not the negative of the cig lighter. If that doesn't work, stop halfassing it and go get a headunit

lol!!! i understand your point but the truth is a friend had given me the amp and the bass box for nuthin, so i figured what the hell, why not? but i'm gonna do that, i'll ground the switch to the frame and try a bigger fuse again, thanks for the info!

"the ground on the switch it connected to the negative on the cig lighter"
why do you even have a ground on the switch? not sure how your switch looks like but mine only has 2 prongs(i understand some have 3). but ya i hooked up the positive wire on the light to one of the prongs then the other prong to the amp. no ground wires needed...

why don't you just tap into the remote turn on wire to the antenna booster in the back passenger pilar. It is next to the back window. It requires a turnon from the radio, works jjust fine.

an antenna requires a turn on wire??? since when? i know that my stereos at home dont need one. i mean on the cars where the antenna comes out you might need one but not on our cars when its on our back windsheild.. i dunno i maybe wrong but i never knew antennas themselves needed a turn on wire cause there is nothing to turn on

you can use the cig lighter for remote turn on , since it only needs a small amount of amperage to turn the amp on .. and if you tag the " remote turn on from the power antenna lead, " it is a power antenna lead or a ignition lead which can cause a loop or it can make your subs sound a single note after you turn your radio on , and since its goin to our antennas its a bad idea to even do that , i have had issues from which my manager did that and it caused the unit to not get enough power and that means no antenna ... the sound difference between a converter and rca's is more than night and day ... for free what the hell , ya know what i mean , but you need a ignition wire, or accessory depends on what you want ... and just cut the wire in 2 and hook the switch up ..

I just want to bring up one point.
Shadow: If you are using the cig lighter positive, have you put a 1 amp fuse inline after the switch, to go to the remote on for your amp. I had an amp once, notice the had, and I didn't do that. About 6 months after I hooked it up, it stopped working. I took it in to check it out, and I was told I fried the turn-on circuit. If the fuses keep blowing on your setup, I would try a smaller fuse first, 1amp, and see if that's it. If you put too much power to the remote on, the fuse might pop cause the circuit can't handle it.
Thank you, that is all.

Okay, I'm assuming you have a spst switch. All you want that switch to do is be able to interrupt the signal (12v) to the amp. Just hook up one end of the switch to the cig. lighter (or you can use something closer to the fuse block) and the other end to the amp remote turn on lead. That's it. No grounding. Now, if your switch has a light in it, you will then need to ground it. But that's only if you want it to light up. Good luck.
