Question about sub and amp....
I have a 12" Eclipse Subwoofer. I'm really not sure what model it is. I bought a system for my old car about 2 years ago and had everything put in by them. I took the sub out but left the amp in the car for my dad who now drives it. It's not the Eclipse subwoofer with the silver cone. Does anyone know how powerful an amp I'd have to buy to safely power this thing?

if he doesnt know what kinda sub it is, then theres no way to know what the impedance is... take the sub out of the box and tell us what it says on the back... sometimes it says model numbers and such
86 id worry about 300 watts. perfect for the 87 however. unless you never crank it.
you can tell its an 86 series cause the magnet is small. if you have a hefty magnet back there, its an 87 series. if the cone is shiny black, its definitely an 87, if its not shiny, it could be either one, can tell from the magnet.
the motor structure of the 87 series eclipse woofer looks very much like the 88 series (the aluminum cone) id go with 150 to 200 watts for the 86, and 300 for the 87.
