Some mech. or knowledgable person please help me
alright, dont ask how this happened or try to flame me for it (all i have to say is honda bolts are made of cheap metal) but i snapped off the lower left bolt and the middle bolt of my header pictured below

alright, i found a really good mechanic that works for my friends dad (so ill have to pay nearly nothing) but i need to know the best way to replace the two bolts

this is a pic of my whole engine bay... alright so im guessing he will have to remove the top 2 black screws and then the bolts underneath, and also whatever else gets in the way (if anyone knows of anything else that needs to be removed please tell me). After everything is removed do you have to drill the bolts out or will they come out another way. Also, would it be easier to replace the bolts as they are now or maybe thread the hole so i can put bolts in facing the other direction (like they should have been in the first place
)
I dont know, any suggestions on what to do would be great. Thanks!

best thing to do is order two new bolts from honda....or if you wanna get really crazy, go test drive a new civic, pull over and take out those bolts you need.....then take the car back
...haha, ok dont do that
just order em and have your friends dad put em on.....i dont see why you would have to remove those other things

Use a drill with a small diameter bit to get the broken bolt out. Make sure the diameter of the bit is a lot smaller than the bolt diameter; you DO NOT want to mess up the threads, trust me. I encountered a similar situation last week when I was removing the transmission on an '89 CRX to install an Exedy clutch. Some boob evidently had previously used an impact tool to over-torque the bolts on the flywheel, so while I was reinstallling the flywheel and retorquing one of the bolts, the bolt head snapped off. We had to put the flywheel on a vice grip and use a drill bit to get that sucker out.
Also, I would not recommend redoing the threads to make the bolts come in from the other direction. In addition, be sure to retorque those 3 bolts to 23 lbs.*ft using a 3/8 drive or smaller-drive torque wrench (torque specs taken from the Helm's manual). Overtorquing these bolts could crack the exhaust manifold gasket (assuming you left the gasket in when putting on your aftermarket header; I'm assuming you have an aftermarket header because the exhaust manifold cover is missing).
Hope this info helps.

did u break the bolts that hold the header to the head and the thread is in the head?if thats the case there is a kit in Sears to take out broken bolts U might need an angle drill to get to them
but be VERY VERY carefull not fung your head aluminum is easy to scew up
they u can buy a grade 8 bolts from a hardware store if u dont want to pay $5 a bolt from honda make sure the thread pitch and length are the same then you'll need to torke the bolts(not tighten the hell out of them till they break) a honda technician should be able to tell you how much to tork them

have you people ever even heard of easy-outs??? oh my lord....just get one about half the size of the bolts threaded part's diameter and drill out the front part of the bolt that's still there...stick this b*tch in there and back out what's left of the bolt in the head....easy as that and you don't even have to remove the header...I know, I've done this before.
and yes, I know how you did this....stock honda exhaust bolts are grade 3 bolts (they plain suck and aren't meant for more than 40ft/lbs of pressure and you probably torqued the SHe!T outta them and broke em off thinking you could get away with it and now your car sounds like it's farting a train out it's *** cause you are getting blow-by at the gasket...you might as well just remove all the bolts....change the exhaust manifold gasket (since it's probably burnt to hell now) and replace all the bolts with some from advance or autozone...they can match them up perfectly for sizes, then you just take this size info to home depot or lowe's and get some grade 8's (if they don't hold nothing will....unless you torque them so hard you strip the threads inside the aluminum head).......

alright its getting to be too long this has been broken so im getting it fixed
what i need to know is this... (preferably someone who has seen inside the exhaust manifold)
when i take off the top of the manifold and i have clear view of the bolts, how are they secured from the back??? how should i go about getting them out, there have been a couple of suggestions in this thread but i think that they thought the bolt was going from the front and then screwed toward the back

The bolts are not like the purple one crossed out, they come from inside the manifold and the threaded part is viewable (where i put the blue lines)
how could i get these out the easiest???
