mustang club, v6 camaro, and grand am GT
I took a road trip up to visit my grandparents on their 36' Avanti power boat this weekend. The trip was from Milwaukee to Oshokosh on hwy 41.
I had the top down, since it was so nice out. I was cruising along about 85mph with 3 other cars most of the way.
At one point, we came upon some traffic, so I decided to get off the freeway. I pulled into a gas station for my fiancee to go to the bathroom and to get a soda. As I pull into this gas station I see about 15 old mustang 5.0's. Some looked stock, others were modified, and some looked absolutely gorgeous!
I ended up talking to a few of the owners while waiting for the fiancee. It was some get together for a "cruise day" they were having. (seeing 15 5.0 mustangs together in wisconsin is like seeing 8 S2000's together... it almost never happens) Many of them were more than willing to show me their cars, and many of them were curious about mine.
There were, however, a few dissenters. The best/worst conversation I had was with a younger male.
Him: (seeming jealous at the attention my car was getting)
So I heard those things have no torque.
Me: Really? I've never heard that before.
Him: Yeah, so why would you get a car like that for $33k when you can get a mustang for less and it's faster anyways?
Me: Why would you get a mustang when you can get an F-body for the same price and that car is faster anyways?
Him: They aren't really that fast.
Me: Right, well just so you know, my car is faster than a stock GT as well.
Him: Well my car is almost as fast as a GT, and I've DUSTED (dusted? who the hell says "dusted?) one of your S2000's before.
Me: Right, so find someone that knows how to drive it, and the story will be different.
Him: So you think you are a better driver?
Me: If the other guy lost to your car, then yes I am!
(after this it was a few more words, and the fiancee came out wanting to go. i of course, wanted to run this fool, so he came with 2 other mustangs to follow onto the hwy to run... like my car is slow from a roll or something)
I still have the top down, and he's on my *** on the onramp. As soon as he can, he downshifts and moves over, and we go immediately. This thing had *****, and he had guage pods, and exhaust, and who the hell else knows what. However, he was no match for the top end of the S2k, even with the top down. I pulled on him from 80mph until I shut down at 130mph. (coming up on traffic) At 130mph I had about 3-4 car lengths on him. He exited the freeway with his friends (who were even further behind) and I never saw him again.
Then, about 10 miles further up the freeway, this dumb chick in a V6 camaro was dipping in and out of traffic, cutting people off. I followed as we moved through traffic, so I could pass her once traffic cleared. As the right lane opened up, she took off, seeing me in her rearview mirror. I blew by her once the left lane opened up, and she never caught up. Silly V6 camaro, racing is for LS1's.
Lastly, on the way back, as I got near germantown, I was again clipping along about 80mph, and a grand am GT got on my butt. I looked in my rear view and the guy had this grin on his stupid face like
As soon as he could he passed me on the right, and I let him go, since we were in traffic. I followed him, and then got behind him when he got stuck behind traffic. Once traffic cleared, I moved over, and he slowly accelerated (then again, it's a grand am GT sedan, so he could have been flooring it for all i know ). Once he got to about 90mph, I downshifted, and I heard his engine crying as he pushed it beyond it's capacity. (i didn't know grand am's could do 90...) From 90-120mph, I walked him like a red-headed step-dog. Oh yeah, I also had the top down and the A/C ON.
The guy caught up eventually (is that smoke coming from his hood? ) and he kept trying to get me to go again. Since traffic was interfering and I'm not one to race through traffic, I declined and stayed in the right lane.
Wow, I got more action this weekend than bill clinton did during his presidency.
