Blew up my K20A2 today!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The 6-speed gearbox perhaps? I don't think it's like the Celica GT-S's but I dunno... I know by now you're used to it... sorry that happened. I hope they do cover it. Mis-shifting sucks. I actually did that a few days ago in my Civic (not racing thank goodness). It happened on the freeway accelerating in traffic and I was HELLA leaning to the right side. I tried shifting to 4th and went to 2nd! I won't be leaning over THAT far anymore going to 4th. It sucks. 2nd gear isn't good downshifting into period unless you're at low RPMs in 3rd gear. Bleh. I think I almost redlined it.

Was pulling to redline in 3rd gear...went to shift into 4th, next thing I know, my tach goes spinning past 9krpm, slam on the clutch, and put it in neutral and the car dies...thats it. Im thinkin bent valves and springs. Im also seriously thinking of getting rid of my Type S. Never before have I mis-shifted...and boy let me tell you it sucks.
That really blows. You've put a lot of money into that car... I hope it doesn't cost you an arm to fix it. I would hate for you to leave that car... you've done a lot with it... and what else would you have if you let go of the Type S? I hope this didn't get you down cuz it wasn't something meant to happen, you know? Even I was close to mis-shifting a Type S (that I was test driving) and accidents happen. I think it's just a matter of getting used to the gearbox but don't give up the car, Neo. (Unless you have to.)

If they dont warrent the car theres no way Im going to be able to afford a new motor for the car....sadly id have to sell it but hopefully it dosnt come to that
Ah man... I hope they'll be understanding. That car is still brand new. I bet it still smells new inside from the cabin to the trunk and maybe even the engine bay. How many miles did you have on the car?

Its called downshifting into an incorrect gear at redline...can happen in any motor but more frequent in 6 speed trannys. Tommarow I get to talk to the dealer so Im looking forward to that...

Wow, sorry to hear that. I think a Revo Technica SS might have saved you. It stiffens everything up, so misshifts aren't as easy to make. Mine helps in that regard. Again, sorry to hear it...

Talked to the dealer today... my ECU's fatal last note was at 9191rpm@69mph... they are working on it now and at least 2 pistons are blown. However he said they will be covering it, but it will be a one-time thing (just like I read on CRSX)...he said at the least I will be getting a brand new motor.

shouldn't the rsx have some sort of fuel cut to prevent damage to the engine due to misshifts? i have a vid of some guy shifting from 3rd to 2nd and the needle on the tach went WAYYYYY past the last tick mark on the tach, looked like the equivalent of 11k - 12k rpm or something. i really like the rsx, and i hope to get one, maybe next year, but i am afraid that i would mess the engine up. good thing they are fixing your car under warranty.
when i was riding with the salesman at my dealership, he misshifted it! LOL the look on his face was priceless. He was thinking
anyway he was shifting to 4th at around 4000 rpm so it just shot up to almost vtec kick in. ha he immediately pulled over and let me drive and he didnt care how i ran it. lol the K20a2 makes such a beautiful sound....just not when misshifted.

Neo: Glad you're getting it fixed... I like the idea of a short shifter, too. Hope you're alright with that.
The tachometer only goes to 9,000 RPMs on the Integra (RSX). That mis-shift video is somewhere. But yeah, commonplace it happens is going to 4th from 3rd but back to 2nd. Dunno if anyone's ever mis-shifted going from 5th to 6th.
I hope htown got the update...
Oh yeah, I remember once reading that this was a common thing with the Celica GT-S. Toyota used to cover mis-shifts under warranty but they don't anymore. I can see why your dealer did this as a "one-time thing" since it's not really a defect in anything, but more like an accident. I hope fire didn't come out of your exhaust.

Still havent heard an update from the dealer so I assume they're still ripping the block apart. Sonic is right about the limiter...its there for the up but theres really no way to prevent it for the down...its just the case that the gates are so close together...hes also right about the GTS. From what I heard they are still warrenting, in fact they are more lient than Honda/Acura. Im not going with a short shifter however...I dont believe that would really help at all as the gates would still be the same size..its just the fact that it would be harder to shift into a gear so you say...no thanks Ill stick with where my shifter is at now. If they do replace the whole motor Im not sure what theyre gonna do with my old one...all I know is they better transfer my JDM Valve cover over when they do or theres gonna be a fight.

They are putting my JDM Valve cover on, they ordered a shortblock to replace everything thats blown, which is 2 cylinders, pistons, and 2 broken valves. Ill have my car back by next week.
i just got to reading this post...damn neo that whole scenario sux.. at least they're gonna fix it this time. if you do end up getting rid of it once it's fixed do you have any ideas for another car or stick with the civic?
Hmm... I hope it turns out good. I was skimming through the warranty book for the 2002 Hondas and they do not cover stuff that happens while racing. I'm sure Acura and every other car maker is no different. I'm glad the dealer was understanding and nice enough to fix it for ya.

lol well I didnt say I was racing....we pushed it a mile down the road from the drag strip and said we were driving "briskfully".
Im selling the car when I get it back. I found a nice 92 CX in good condition and Im going to perform a B18C1 swap on it.

Hehe, thank goodness.
Hybrid eh? What color is the CX? I'm gonna miss the Type S... dunno if you will though but I feel ya. What's the weight difference between the 5th gen hatch and coupe? If I was gonna make a hybrid, I'd use the 5th gen coupe but I'm just curious about weight difference since hatches are lighter... but I dunno by how much.

A Civic DX coupe came in at 2231 while the CX hatch is 2094....the hatch I will be getting is red. Ill have pics up when my project is done which should be soon considering I dont have a lot of work to do this coming week.
As for the Type S, good riddance. Back to the good ol 5 speed gearbox that wont stab me in the back.
