low fuel light question...

on VWs when the low fuel light goes on, there's a loud beep/chime. I was wondering if the connection to the low fuel light on our cars is such that one could put a capacitor and piezo-buzzer (in series with one another) parallel to the low fuel indicator. If my physics memory serves, that would draw current until the capacitor was full, and then stop? Just something I was thinking about.

note: I am aware that if I just get gas more often, that would make my life easier, but I think this is cooler.

Gas is what, like 7lbs a gallon? Yeah, hey, that fewer 50 lbs might improve 1/4 times by .005 or so

er, i dunno about this yo. why waste ur time trying to make this buzzer/alarm thing? if you've ever run out of gas on the road then maybe give it a thought, but in my opinion, i always watch my milage and the recognize that the light's on... or at least sometimes the passenger sees it

There is usually 1-2.5 gallons left when the light goes on.

How about just keeping some gas in your tank, but i have found the car to actually sound better and take off a LIL faster when the gas is about to finish.

civiccowboy will become famous soon enough
You guys should know that you should always keep at least 1/4 tank of fuel because the fuel actually keeps the fuel pump cool to prolong its life. Running on an empty tank for long periods will burn out the fuel pump faster. I had a 1990 Tbird and went on vacation. I drove the car as far as I could on an empty tank of gas before fillups and when I returned from my trip the fuel pump was making alot of noise. I have also read this in some popular car magazines and it might even say this in our owners manuals (I haven't checked).

Just something to think about.
