Long Distance Highway Driving tires

I have a 2001 EX, tire size 185/65R15

I've eeked out almost 40,000 miles on the stock Firestones and its time to get some real tires.

I mostly do long distance freeway driving and am looking for a good set of tires that have long treadlife and will be comfortable for long distances. Some performance would be nice too, as I take corners a bit fast sometimes.

Any recommendations?

Also, I plan to get an alignment with the new tires, even though the current ones look to be wearing pretty evenly. I am surprised because I have 22,000 speed bumps I have to go over everyday to get out of my apartment complex. Would a lifetime alignment be worth it, or are Hondas pretty good about holding alignment for a long time? I'll be moving soon to a speed bump free house.

I also have a Nissan 240SX that was worth the lifetime alignment because the stupid car would go out every 10-15k

BTW- I must concur that those FIrestone tires are absolutely useless. I get them skidding even when the pavement is just a barely damp.

You can't have it all. I agree the Firestone OE tires are crummy, but Honda didn't choose them for performance. Unless you buy a performance car you will usually get tires that are quiet, ride nice, and are cheap.

As for your driving style, I don't think you will find a combination of handling, quiet ride, and extra long life. Go to Goodyear's page and fill out the priorities questions and their program will come back with recommendations. It's up to you do decide what your priorities are and what combination of wet traction, handling, ride, and tread life you are willing to settle for.

I would go with the michelin energy series of tires. The set that came from the factory on my 93 accord lasted 70k. They were 100 bucks a piece and well worth it. That would be my choice for an all around tire that will last for quite some time.
