CUTTING FACORY SPRINGS, GOOD IDEA???
Has anyone cut their factory springs??? I have talked to 6th gen civic owners who have done this before and said it rides the same as factory because the tension in the springs is still the same just shorter. if i got new springs then i would need new shocks because the tension would be different. has anyone done this or would u even recommend it?? Flame me if u will i did a search and found nothing.
Do not cut your springs, horrible ride. Bouncy...bouncy...bouncy... And anyone who knows anything will be able to tell at a glance that you cut your springs. It's just ghetto...get it done right.
no dont cut ur springs. if ur doing that 2 lower ur car dont do it u will regret it. the proper way 2 lower a car is 2 buy aftermarket struts, shocks and a camber kit and coilovers if u want the best drop.
cutting factory springs not a good thing to do, never good to cut any springs for that matter but you can get a set of halfway decent springs installed for a relatively low price-jus do that instead
BAD IDEA! The ride will suck. If you've seen the factory coils you can tell that every coil is needed, besides lowering springs are pretty cheap (129 fo neuspeed) and you gotta do/pay for labour anyways.
Maybe on our cars it will bounce since they already bounce enough as it is but in the 6thgen and in the accords if you cut the springs it will ride the same. I know because a couple of my friends have done this. One of my friends cut his springs in his accord wagon and it rode like stock. It was cut about 2 inches. After like a year he decided to buy springs and he bought some it was about the same drop and his car started to bounce like crazy and he then blew his shocks. He had no problem with the cut springs. But like I said maybe on our cars you should't cut the springs.

Don't do it. Whoever it was that said they have cut them on the 6th gen and it was the same, I'm sorry but no. I seriously doubt that one. Progressive springs are designed with certain parts of the coil having a different dampining. They are designed for certain parts to absorb more or less of the pressure according to your driving. So in other word if you take out one or two of the coils you will have a terible ride.
the first day i got my car i cut my springs in half almost and they never popped out or anything. it didnt screw anything up either. i think our suspension is pretty forgiving cause i have done a lotta crazy stuff to lower my car and i havent had any "major" problems yet. it didnt ride as well as my neuspeeds, i bought 3 months later, though.
Chances are you won't hurt your car that bad by cutting the springs but like I said you have progressive springs and cutting them makes a major difference on their reponse and abilty to adjust to the road.
