help me choose guys.. 17 or 18

Alright I've decided on getting Axis Sevens towards the end of this month. I am planning on getting 17's but I might spend a tad bit more and get 18's. But here's my question. I drive to school every day for a total of 50 highway miles (im in college by the way). I was wondering about tread wear. Could I keep my tires longer with 17's or would it even matter and would be safe with 18's? Please give me any help or suggestions.

go wit 17's
cheaper to replace tires and probably better ride for the 50 mile ride "to and from"
i think 18's are more show and not for daily driving ( on a civic)

depending on if you are going to get rims later. this will be one of the biggest investment for your car.

If you have the urge to race every sportcompact on the street - get 17s
If you just want to roll, and look good - get 18s
If you want to show of to them hoes - get 19s
If you want the best weight for the buck - get Rota's
If you want to show that you got the bucks - get Rays eng.

I would go with 18's with a 215/40/18 tire. I just put mine on 3 days ago and have gotten tons of compliments. I would run 17's if you plan on lowering your car or live in an area with crappy roads. My wife drives the car about 75-100miles a day. As for ride...I found in REAL difficult to tell the difference in the 18's and in the stock wheels. A little firmer but nothing like what I expected....almost no difference IMO.
So unless you are going to drop your car I would go with 18's...they just look sweet on there!! BTW I got mine for under $1300 at tire rack....mounted balanced and shipped to my front door. later...

Thanks for all the help guys. I do plan on lowering the car, but that'll be probably in 8 more months (remember im just a po college guy). The only real question that hasn't been answered is tire wear. Are 18's gonna wear out quicker or are they gonna be about the same?

hm, i was thinking of 18's, but 17's are a bit cheaper, and does it look funky to have such huge wheels as 18's and not lowered? maybe not, just asking cuz i haven't seen too many civics on 18's---

Tire wear is not dependant on size. You can get just as many miles from 18's as from 15's, 16's or 17's. If you keep them rotated properly, keep the air pressure correct and keep the stock ride height you will get lots of miles out of ANY size tire. My 18's are $127 each which I think is pretty reasonable for an 18" tire.
When you lower your ride ... and don't use a camber kit is when you will run into wear problems.

True DAD!!
When getting new rims remember that when you lower it you have to do so mush more so that you don't really mess up the ride of your car!!! you will looser that nice clean turn and your tires won't last!!1

Slam2k......I don't know if you are aware of this but tire ratings are generated by the tire manufacturer. So basically the tread.....tirewear...temp rating are all....BS...just wondered if you knew that....later
