How much should I pay?

How much should I expect to pay for a "Good Quality" paint job on a 4 pc. Kaminari kit. Shops have been telling me that polyurethan kits are very difficult to paint and most shops are trying to charge me $400.00. But the shop were I want to get my kit painted is charging me $800.00. Actually, that shop just worked on an integra wide-body kit and the car was showed in Import Tuner(June issue). What do you guys think?

$800 is kinda steep but so worth it if it is a properly done job. Polyurethane painting is a little more involved than, say, fiberglass, because you have to thoroughly clean the parts and spray them with an adhesion-promoting coating before you can even prime them.

If the process is not done properly, then you will have flaking or peeling paint after a few weeks.

OK, time to be helpful... what basis do you have for making this statement? All the shops I have been to have said the same thing. Also, how much is the right price to pay to have a kit painted? come on sumama ... help!

Grey has a spectacular aura aboutGrey has a spectacular aura about
A decent compressor: < $300
A paint gun: < $100
A can of paint adhesive: < $25
A can of primer: < $25
A can of clearcoat: < $25
A can of paint: < $25

All you need for less than $500. Plus you get to keep all this stuff and paint whatever you want again. This is where I'm heading.

Well, I live in an apartment, so no workshop space for me. Otherwise, that is the best choice. You could even make some money by painting people's parts!

Nah, too many contamiments in the air. I could buy one of those crappy little sheds and paint in there. That would limit me to only small pieces like body kits though. Maybe liming the garage in newspaper is a better idea? Well, at least when painting the whole car, or parts of it. Anyway, my father is getting the compressor. As soon as he does I'll look for the paint gun. Getting an impact wrench too! Then I'll be able to paint my own body kits. Maybe I'll paint people's body kits for a small fee in the future? Hehe...

Even though I'm hoping Grey goes through with this...I'd definitely be willing to drive to MA from NYC. I was also wondering once it's painted...how difficult is it to install the body kit to the car. Also, how well would the painting on the body kit match our current car's colors.

The color matching is something I'de have to figure out. I can ask for the base color by matching the color code, but that would match the color if your car was brand spanking new. The color fades over time, so I'de have to add in some other color to even things out if your car was older. I'll read up on this when I get all of my gear. That's cool that people would be willing to drop by my house for me to paint their bodykits. If I could do a good job then I bet I would get a lot of business. Hmm... Maybe I should bug my dad to buy that air compressor ASAP? Hehe...

Installing the bodykit depends on which one it is. The Tsunami T2001 is hard to install since you have to drill a bunch of holes and cut out a bunch of stuff to make it fit. Other bodykits may already have the holes in them? Who knows? The answer is that it depends.
