Sedan Grill to Coupe Grill Conversion...Completed w/ Pics!!!

Got done converting my sedan grill to a coupe grill with the coupe hood trim piece. Took about 2 hours. 1 1/2 hours to figure out that I need to remove the bumper and then figuring out how. (Thanks for the DIYs) And about a 1/2 hour to actually do it. Looks good. Here are pics. If anyone is interested in a DIY let me know and I will put one together when I have more time. What do you think?

Looks Nice!

What else did you need besides the grill and the base from the coupe?

What's the status on the pulleys?

oh, why don't you have your pm turned on?

Time to hit it up with teh DIY headlight clearing project. Just dont cut yourself! Now that i see how good that looks i might do that to my blue baby but with a hybrid upper grill? That should look pretty tight too.

Going back to this thread that started it all: Original Thread. I needed all the parts listed HERE except #6. You could reuse the H emblem, but I broke the tabs off the back of mine trying to salvage it. The #7 screws are shorter than the sedan, plus there's more of them. I buggered up a lot of the #5s (they are a pain) but reused them all. So, total cost about $125 from my local dealer. Their cost was about par with Majestic.

<< What's the status on the pulleys? >>

Got them today UPS. I will try to have them installed Friday. Believe me as soon as I can run a 1/4 with them I will let everyone know what is up with them.

<< oh, why don't you have your pm turned on? >>

What the heck is pm? and how do you turn it on?

<< family man. u now need to get an rsx type r spoiler to make it more pimped out. great job!!!!! wish i had the dough to do dat... >>

Want to hook me up with a link to a pic of that spoiler? Willing to take a look at it.

<< Time to hit it up with teh DIY headlight clearing project. >>

Hey, I'm trying to stand out from the crowd, not blend in. JK I am planning on some projectors toward the end of this project. It's hard to justify non performance mods with the wife. She has already asked me how many HP this grill added to my ride. But she softened up and admitted she liked the way it looks. I told her: more cooling capacity!?

Thanks for the input. The only hard part was taking off the bumper. Is the sedan different than the coupes? The DIYs helped but I had more of those pesky plastic grommets under the front end than the DIY showed, and most of mine are ground down and wacked up from scraping. So, my bumper never actually came off, I just tipped it out and slapped in the new parts.

Yes indeed, I kill a lot of bugs. I'm turning 35K and bought the car in August 2001. The bugs will be gone on Friday in time for the Street Legal Drags.

FamilyMan: PM = Private Messages....It allows users to send you messages privatly instead of them posting a whole new thread or sending you an email for a question....if you goto the top of any page on the forums, right under the image that says "Forums", you'll see a little lock that is orange and the words "no new message(s)" next to it...that's your private message "box." When you get a message it will flash red...

To enable this feature, goto the top of any forum, and click on the "Profile" button. In there you will see a option that says "Allow Private Messages:" click on the "yes" and hit "Update Profile" and your set to go!

Lookin good with the body colored hood pieice.....I'm gonna get mine painted if it's cheaper than buying a new piece when I get my body kit painted and isntalled.....gonna get the one on the trunk done too!

Thanks! I plan to get the one on the trunk painted too eventually. The coupe piece won't fit there.

Yah I heard about the coupe piece not fitting on the sedan too....The coupe one is smaller than the sedan

I wonder why Honda decided to make them chrome on the sedan's.......IMO I think it looks stupid

wow, I never noticed there was a difference between the coupe and sedan grills. Shows how much I pay attention.

Looks pretty good. Probably something I would consider doing in the future (this or the RS grill). Right now I'm focusing on performance mods.

ya when I installed my alteeza grill on my coupe, I didn't realize that the gray plastic piece wouldn't fit anymore and I would have to buy a sedan backing. Well I've left off the backing and have had no problems yet so I think I'll save that $40 or so and put it to some gas or something.

*yoink* Thanks for the mod idea FamilyMan. It looks sooo much better!

I just did the same thing this weekend. I haven't popped in the lower quick release buttons (those black things), but it stays in place fine right now with just the upper ones. I'll finish the job when I take the bumper off to install cleared headlights, airhorn, and Injen CAI. No pics yet, my digital cam is currently in Ecuador. Cost me about $120 for everything. You could probably get by for less is you reused the longer screws from the sedan and could salvage your H emblem. Mine broke. You could run it without the base piece behind the grill, but I chose not to. So anywhere between $80 and $110 probably. Cheaper for used parts. Here is a better picture with the Accord nozzles in place also. Things are tightening up a bit.

I got the coupe grill and radiator cover used from the Marketplace board here. I got the body color trim piece from the dealer for *$35. I also had to buy some screws from the hardware store since the coupe grill needs more of them (as FamilyMan mentioned). I didn't need a new emblem since the used grill I bought already had it.

*What I should have done was get the body color trim piece from Greg at Hondawerx for $19.

Did you ever get the ECM issue resolved?
