What to look out for when buying a 5th gen Civic?
I'm considering buying a 1991 Civic and I'm not sure what to look out for. I've been researching and I can't find much info on common problems and such. This would be my first Honda car and so I'm not too familiar with everything. If you could provide some tips or red flags that'd be great!

Rust. It's a 30 year old Japanese car so examine it carefully, bring a magnet.
other than that just your standard used car things, mechanical issues, how does it drive, what's broken, etc.

Like Colin said, rust is by far the biggest issue. If you're wanting an automatic, those transmissions were pretty weak so make sure it shifts smoothly. Unless it has like 60k on it, don't expect a great car.
1991 is 4th gen by the way.

You won't find many common problem info because they really don't have any standout issues. Rust and be careful of hacked engine swaps. It is old enough that people may have replaced the motor. Even if it's the original series but it's JDM parts might be more difficult to find.
