'16 Touring Wont' Start/Stuck in Accessory Mode
'16 Touring Wont' Start/Stuck in Accessory Mode
I bought '16 Touring Sedan in August and have not had any serious issues since purchase. Was running fine yesterday.
I got in the car today and pressed the Engine Start button and the engine did not turn over. Instead, all of the dash lights were on and the dash screen (Not Stereo) reported that there was a Power Brake Problem, then reported all sorts of other "Problems," in succession, that I'd never seen before. I would post more precisely but the car is now dead and I cannot see any notifications. Additionally, the steering wheel was not locked like it would be when the car is 'off' - it moved freely. And I could not move the shifter out of PARK position even with my foot on the brake pedal.
While it did still have power, I kept pressing the START button, attempting with my foot both on and off the brake pedal, but it would never crank. I could not Lock/Unlock doors or pop the trunk, but the ventilation system was running and interior lights would turn off/on. My best guess in this scenario is that the battery was nearly depleted (I don't have the ability to jump it at the moment).
Is this how these Tourings behave when the battery is nearly dead? I assumed that unlikely since I believe a new battery was put in when I purchased it. But I will need to confirm that later. It just seems a very odd series of events.
To the point, I'm wondering if there is an issue with the car remaining, unbeknownst to the driver, in accessory mode (or some other mode) and consequently draining the battery while the car sits overnight or for any extended period of time - Perhaps because the shifter is not detected to truly be in PARK position? There have been zero signs that there was a problem prior to today.
Has anyone had a similar experience?

Thanks for your reply. Are you referring to the parking brake, or the brake pedal itself? Because I gotta be honest, I have never used the parking brake (Don't need it) and don't even know how to engage it in this Civic. Something I'm going to look at right now, Ha.
Re: '16 Touring Wont' Start/Stuck in Accessory Mode
Yikes. The Parking brake is fully electronic?
Call me old-fashioned, but that sounds like a bad idea. In the past I always knew, based on resistance, whether I had engaged the emergency brake or not. How would I know it's even functioning if I'm relying on the computer to tell me?
I digress.

Battery appears to be a Johnson Controls 410 CCA - which looks like it was either the original battery or the previous owner replaced the original with another Honda battery.
There is no date in it.
In any case, it was dead -so I bought a new one.
In the end though, I'm still very curious about the meaning behind all of the crazy messages I was seeing. I will have to peruse this site throughly to find out. I don't want to be in the dark about all of it if I'm stuck on a country road in Norther Georgia, or something.

So everything is back to normal after replacing the battery? That's good to hear, all the errors are just from insufficient voltage, electronics get weird when they don't have proper voltage
Re: '16 Touring Wont' Start/Stuck in Accessory Mode
I get it, but some of those errors continued to scroll after I drove for a couple of minutes. Is this normal when it first initializes the computer and display system again?
