does anybody know how to put in a hand clutch?
I just got my car about 4 months ago, and of course I bought a 5spd. There is only one little issue, I have one leg.
I was wondering if anybody has ever seen a hand operated clutch on the stick.
I think I can run another cable to the existing clutch cable and add a hydrolic motercycle brake lever to it. Right now I am driving using a cne on the clutch which works but it's too slow and I always have to let go of the steering wheel to shift.
If anyone haas any idea if this would work or has seen anything like this before I would reakky like a little feed-back.

Dunno man. Maybe some kind of lever (like a mountain bike brake lever) mounted on either the steering wheel (back side?) or on the stick itself. I don't know how much travel you need though... (I drive an auto).

I think I can use a motercycle brake lever because it already has a hydrolic cylinder and resevior on it.
I want to put it right on the stick. I think it would be pretty fast even if you didn't really need it. ( just cause your hand is faster than your foot right.)
I used to drive an auto to, but I'm a control freak. It took me way to much to make the damn thing shift when I wanted it to.
Thanks for the reply, Where u from?

there was a teacher at my high school who was in a wheelchair and he had some sorta set up like that...not sure how it worked exactly though....or maybe you could get one of those push button shifiting systems...those are probably so expensive though...

I looked at those to.
They work but then the clutch is either engaged or not, there is no between (ie.starting smooth would tuff)
I think this method would work I just don't know anybody that has the expertise to put it into effect. I also don't know if the hydrolic from a bike would be strong enugh.
I think I'm gonna try this. Ijust wanted to see if anybody had tried anything like this or if anybody had any input.
I was thinking about having the clutch on the stick, and just how fast that would be for racing.
I just can't wait to get the damn thing working!

look in the Super Street (feb 2002)... the 5Zigen team made a clutchless transmission by integrating the clutch in the shift ****... you should probably e-mail them on the specs on how to's on that and get yourself hooked up.

My grandpa had a friend who had problems with his legs and he had a lever to the right of the steering wheel that operated the gas and the brake (up to accelerate down to brake). It worked quite nicely, I was 14 when I saw it, so I never got to try it, but it worked. I assume something similar could be made for a clutch.

Thanks for the support,
I think my idea will work. I'll post some pics if I can figure it out.
The way I'm driving now is o.K. its just slow and a little dangerouse in fast corners. I use a cane sorta thing attatched to my clutch pedal. like I say it works fine but I want t go faster, so I need more control.

<< have a racing setup mounted on your steering wheel, so just hit the button and bam new gear.
>>But he still has to operate the clutch and throttle at the same time, but that would be a good solution for someone with one arm.
I'll throw in my 2 cents.... Why not use your good leg for the clutch and have the gas relocated???
It would require a lot less pressure and is probably less expensive....
Easier??? Don't know
Good luck

THanks for the support guys. I really appreciate it.
I tought about relocating the gas but it just seemed like it would be wierd. I guess thats only because I have my right leg so it kinda feels natural to have it on the gas and break.
I do appreciate any new ideas though so please by all means keep em comin.

well, a motorcycle break lever certainly doesnt have the throw your clutch does, so youd need a lever to equalize the path lengths of each... o man would you have to squeeze that sucker ever so hard to put it in nutral.
good luck tho

Stick with the motorcycle lever idea, it has merit. Problem is the clutch needs a lot of weight to move it. My Kawasaki ZX7R has a hydralic clutch lever that might be better than a brake set up. If you can find the right engineer, you might just have to run an intermediate hydralic slave cylinder to actuate the existing cluch mechanism. Good luck

FastProf,
That sounds like exactly what I'm tryin to do. I just thought that I would use a break because it already has a hydrolic in line.
I originally wanted to use a clutch lever in it but I din't know how to rig the hydrolics. I need to find somebody to talk to that has some real knowlage of hydrolics.
Does anybody either know enugh about hydrolics to give me a shove in the right direction, or know someone who does?
Thanx again HUGE guys.

p.s. tomohawk thanks man, if I can't get this to work I think that will be what I try next. ( I just would have to teach my fiance to drive with the pedals switched)lol
